About the role:
Under limited supervision, the Packaging Engineer is responsible for developing and analyzing packaging, products, materials, processes and equipment for projects of moderate complexity. The incumbent will compile, analyze and report operational, test, and research data to establish performance standards for newly-designed or modified packaging, products, processes or materials
Your responsibilities will include:
- Provide engineering support for sustainability projects related to medical device packaging
- Design and coordinate standard engineering tests and experiments for existing design improvements
- Complete packaging tests of new sustainable materials for product development
- Execute value improvement projects within the distribution environment
- Generate and manage packaging related documentation including specifications, test plans and reports
- Work with project teams on packaging, product design and development, materials testing, specification preparation, process capability studies
- Work independently to plan and schedule activities necessary to meet timelines
- Keep abreast of new technologies and advances in the medical device packaging industry
- Collaborate with various BSC departments, divisions and suppliers to ensure a consistent, practical and improved approach to packaging
Required qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree in Packaging Engineering
- Minimum 2yrs of packaging engineering experience with related equipment and materials (i.e. paperboard, corrugated, flexible films, Tyvek, thermoformed trays and injection molded parts)
Preferred qualifications:
- Experience with supply chain and distribution
- Experience working in the medical device, pharmaceutical or similar industry
- Understanding of quality system controls (e.g. user needs, design inputs, outputs, verification, validation, etc.)
- Familiar with ASTM and ISTA package testing requirements
- Experience with sustainability and process improvement initiatives
- Ability to communicate effectively with individuals on all levels (written and verbally)
- Strong problem-solving and critical thinking skills; analytical and process-driven
- Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills ability to manage multiple projects efficiently
