Overview:
Colliers Engineering & Design is seeking a self-motivated entry level environmental geologist to support on-going geophysical, hydrogeologic, and geologic evaluations in a hybrid role for our environmental and applied geosciences team. The successful candidate will conduct field evaluation and data collection, analytical processing, and prepare reports and figures for an extensive range of projects related to our vast engineering and surveying services. The role provides an opportunity to work with a variety of clients, including municipal, federal, commercial, and long-term remediation oversight. At the entry level, our technical staff are expected to work closely with a variety of team members as well as CED professionals from other service groups (including professional geologists, engineers, and land surveyors). The candidate’s role will grow with increasing responsibilities, more complex assignments, and technical ability. While no prior experience is required, this role is a fast-paced, hi-intensity position suited for a candidate who is interested in developing skills and abilities to grow into a professional geologist/geophysicist/hydrogeologist.

Responsibilities:
Geophysical Surveying Responsibilities:
  • Design and conduct geophysical investigations.
  • Acquiring, processing, and performing QA/QC of geophysical data including, but not limited to, Ground Penetrating Radar, Two and Three-Dimensional Resistivity Imaging, Seismics, Electromagnetic Induction, Metal Detection, and Gravity.
  • Design and perform collection of geophysical surveying.
  • Prepare reports, maps, and annotated electronic data deliverables using AutoCAD, GIS, Oasis Montaj, and Surfer software packages.
  • Operate in various terrain and environments.
Geologic Investigation Responsibilities:
  • Evaluate and analyses remote sensing data, geologic maps, and historical datasets.
  • Oversee geologic drilling and excavation exploration efforts.
  • Create and annotate geologic base maps and integrate engineering plans.
  • Relay geologic information and findings into analytical reports and electronic data deliverables.
  • Conduct sample collection.
  • Preparation of written correspondence- Outside agencies, client, attorney, contractor, etc. Also includes preparation of technical reports.
Hydrogeologic Investigation Responsibilities:
  • Conduct and analyze aquifer and infiltration testing.
  • Prepare and construct groundwater flow models (i.e. MODFLOW).
  • Preparation and oversight of water allocation and water use registrations.
  • Perform dye tracer testing and groundwater flow direction analyses.
  • Collect groundwater samples for laboratory analysis.
Qualifications:
  • 0-3 years of experience.
  • Degree in geology.
  • Job requires moderate travel (2-3 hours per day) and periodical hotel stays.
  • Job requires moderate physical activity including hiking, carrying equipment up to 80 pounds etc., and several miles of walking per day.
  • Independent thinking and problem solving skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong attention to detail with excellent analytical and critical thinking skills.
  • Ability to work independently and also in team environments.
  • OSHA 40 HAZWOPR training preferred.
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Preferred candidate will have experience with AutoCAD or GIS software.
  • Occasional long-distance travel and overnight stays.
