Job Description
Under general direction; responsible for inspection, troubleshooting, repair and installation of sensitive fleet communications, computer, and other related safety equipment; maintains preventative maintenance schedules; completes daily records, prepares reports; may develop operational procedure and recommend equipment modifications for upgrade. Performs other related duties as required

Required Qualifications
Any combination of training and work experience which indicates possession of the skills, knowledge and abilities listed below.
Completion of a high school level education with advanced technical courses in electronic mobile communication, (LEADS)system compatible computers, automotive electrical systems, and repair plus one (1) year of proven experience in installation, troubleshooting and testing. Direct Current (DC) certification required. Valid State of Ohio operator license required.

Description of Job Duty
The duties listed below are intended to depict tasks performed by this classification.
Inspects new/old fleet vehicles and related emergency/computer equipment to determine nature of work or service required (e.g., meeting component and material specifications, proper materials of repair; determines need for salvage or auction sale, etc.) and prepares reports and recommendations; schedules vehicles and equipment for highly technical maintenance and/or repair; may transport vehicles and/or equipment as required or necessary.
Modifies safety vehicles for specific tasks (e.g., installs emergency safety lights, sirens, computers, radios, etc. . studies resource bulletins and manuals from manufactures; attends special training sessions to maintain proficiency level and for making recommendation for modifications; recommends specific equipment and parts; maintains inventory levels of bench stock; may write specifications for equipment and materials.
Operates test equipment to determine source of failure or malfunction on vehicle electrical, computerized mobile radio and light systems; removes, repairs, replaces, installs and calibrates as necessary; bench test new, repaired or refurbished equipment and parts.
