Summary

Responsible for handling the engineering aspects for most projects dealing with natural gas feeder and distribution mains (such as bridge crossings, railroad crossings, shallow installations, and excessive cover) and for directly coordinating or overseeing the coordination of main replacement projects.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Handle calls and correspondence from Construction and Leak & Maintenance foremen, general foremen, civic inspectors, External Affairs, and other departments regarding the status of jobs and projects
  • Schedule and prioritize projects that are going to construction or have a higher priority due to the Company’s requirements
  • Prepare necessary paperwork related to the Company’s procedures for gas main and service work as required, including utility agreements and other documents
  • Attend utility meetings and pre-construction meetings to negotiate with representatives from engineering firms and municipalities to reduce the impact of proposed improvements to the Company’s existing facilities
  • Attend site meetings, when necessary, to resolve specific issues or conflicts with the Company’s facilities and proposed improvements
  • Record and track each set of improvement plans from preliminary to final stage through construction
  • Assist in the daily coordination, assignment of work and oversight of GIS Analyst and Construction Engineers
  • Work on special projects: bridge crossings; railroad crossings; design non-normal services, such as for loft buildings; work with those blasting near the Company’s mains; and calculate stress on pipelines with non-typical amounts of cover
  • Responsible for specifying and having placed on order most non-stock material required for all types of main and service work
  • Review the design and cost estimates for all types of main and service work; review delivery pressures; and justify proposed main work
  • All other duties as assigned.

Required Education (certifications, licenses)

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering
  • Civil, Mechanical, Chemical or Engineering Degree preferred

Required knowledge, skill and abilities

  • Three years of related engineering experience preferred
  • Two years of practical design experience and interaction with road/highway agencies preferred

Physical demands, environment and schedule

  • Normal Work Environment – Work is normally performed in a shared office environment
  • Typically, 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday
  • Overtime and/or travel may be required

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $60,900.00 - $101,200.00 per year
