Responsibilities

Job Summary

As General Counsel, you will work closely with the CEO, department, and facility leaders to advise the organization on a wide range of legal and business issues, including policy management, entity management, healthcare regulation, labor & employment, and litigation. You will manage the Legal Department and its staff and oversee the Company’s Director of Risk Management. The work is fast-paced and varied. You will have an opportunity to steer the organization, improve clients’ lives, and further the Company’s mission.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Partners with Chief Executive Officer and Executive Management Team to oversee legal matters and acts as the Company’s legal representative
  • Provides legal advice to senior management, board members and other executives on various matters and ensures compliance with current corporate laws
  • Attends to needs of appropriate clients and stakeholders and advises in the decision-making process
  • Serves on various committees to drive improvement of service, quality, and outcomes for internal and external clients
  • Maintains corporate governance policies and practices
  • Analyzes legal risks and opportunities to company considering evolving and dynamic regulatory and competitive environments
  • Is trusted with maintaining legal documents and private company information
  • Counsels the Company in response to data breaches, government audits, and investigations
  • Leads the Legal Department staff and risk management personnel
  • Prepares materials and minutes for the Board of Directors
  • Provides guidance on managed care matters and compliance with payors’ guidelines
  • Develops and maintains the Legal Department budget
  • Manages outside counsel as needed
  • Collaborates and provides guidance to the Chief Compliance Officer, when appropriate
  • Manages, drafts, reviews, and negotiates Company’s regulatory filings.
  • Furnishes legal, regulatory, commercial, and compliance support to our facilities
  • Identifies issues in regulatory areas such as HIPAA, the Stark Law, fee-splitting, and the Anti-Kickback Statute
  • Creates and maintains corporate entities and oversees maintenance of the company’s intellectual property

Qualifications

Education/Experience/Skills:

  • Juris Doctorate
  • Active law license in good standing in one or more states
  • 8+ years of healthcare / behavioral health / addiction / or reputable law firm experience with expertise in healthcare regulatory, merger and acquisition, general corporate, intellectual property, and compliance
  • Leadership experience managing legal staff
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Ability to analyze legal issues, anticipate risks, and develop mitigation strategies
  • Ability to recognize when to elevate matters to the attention of the Chief Executive Officer
  • Flexibility and willingness to work on a broad variety of legal matters
  • Be comfortable in a fast -paced environment, work under tight timelines, and manage several projects simultaneously
  • Ability to react quickly to change yet remain compliant in a heavily regulated industry
  • Positive attitude, service-minded, and team-oriented

Travel Percentage: less than 15%

Expected Hours of work: Variable, but typically 8:30 am – 5:30 pm
