The weekly wage is €621.47 min to €643.49 max (as per Circular EL 01/2022). Holders of the post will be paid on a pro rata basis in accordance with the relevant Department Circular.

Job Summary

1. The Position
The Council is seeking applications from suitably qualified candidates with relevant experience for the position of General Operative - Kennels.

It is proposed to form a panel of qualified candidates from which vacancies permanent or temporary will be filled during the lifetime of the panel.

The proposed hours of work will be 24 hours per week over 6 days including Saturdays / Sundays / Public Holidays

2. Role, Duties & Responsibilities
The successful applicant will be responsible for the day to day operation of the kennels, including but not limited to:

• Looking after the welfare of the animals, cleaning kennels, feeding dogs

• Dealing with members of the public

• General duties in relation to the operation and maintenance of the kennels

• Admitting in to and discharging dogs out of the Dog Shelter

• Working with the General Public and animal welfare organisations to rehome dogs

• Handling dogs – aware of dog welfare – willing to help with euthanasia of and disposal of dogs under the direct supervision of the attending Veterinary Surgeon

• Micro chipping Dogs (training will be given)

• Answer phones, responding to e mails and taking messages for Dog Wardens

• General administration, maintain kennel register, registering microchips online, record keeping, completing statistical returns, handling money
