Graduate Teaching Assistants will be listed as the teacher of record for two three-semester hour sections of English 1020 each semester. They will work directly with the Director of First-Year Composition and will attend weekly training meetings during the fall semester and bi-weekly meetings during the spring. Graduate Teaching Assistants are required to attend a GA orientation during UCM Prep Week prior to the start of the Fall semester, which is when the contract starts. In addition, the successful candidates will engage in ongoing professional training for the duration of their appointment and are expected to abide by the School policies.

- A bachelor’s degree completed
- Fully admitted into a UCM graduate program
- 3.00 graduate cumulative GPA (or 2.70 cumulative undergraduate GPA if no grad credit)
- Minimum of 6 and maximum of 12 graduate credit hours enrolled for fall
- Students who hold a full GA position work 20 hours per week; teach 2 3-credit hours courses.
BA, BS, or BSE in English or Communication strongly preferred.Preference given to students enrolled in MSE in ELL TESL or MA English programs.
Computer Skills Word-Processing, Spreadsheet, Presentation Experience
Successful completion of undergraduate Composition course(s).

Scholarship: Students filling a Graduate Assistantship (GA) position are eligible to receive a graduate tuition waiver, a graduate non-resident tuition waiver (if applicable), and a graduate mandatory fees waiver. The scholarships are in the form of a waiver and the funds are not deposited into the student’s personal account. Instead, the student’s bill is reduced by the amount of the scholarship awarded. If the maximum amount of the scholarship is not used, the remainder is not paid to the student in any form and unused scholarship money cannot be carried over to another semester. The scholarship is applied to graduate level courses only; courses taken for undergraduate credit are not eligible to be covered by the GA scholarship. The non-resident fee scholarship only applies to classes taken on the UCM Warrensburg campus. The maximum scholarship amounts are based on the size of assistantship held. For a full (20 hour per week) assistantship, the scholarship covers tuition costs up to $4,860.00 (+$4,106.75.00 for non-residents) and mandatory fees up to $684.75 of graduate coursework per semester. Graduate assistantship positions less than full will be prorated accordingly.
