MKO is seeking to recruit an experienced Health & Safety professional to manage and grow our Health & Safety consultancy service offering and lead the effective and progressive management of MKO’s operational health & safety requirements.

The Role

The Health & Safety Director will be responsible for:

  • Overseeing and managing the delivery of a high-quality Health & Safety consultancy service offering for the clients that entrust us with their work
  • Providing Health & Safety consultancy services, including fulfilling the role of PSDP on large-scale construction and infrastructure projects
  • Extending the breadth and reach of MKO’s project-focused Health & Safety consultancy services offering, which caters for the various requirements of different clients across a range of projects
  • Growing the client base through business development and promotion of the H&S service offering
  • Growing and managing a high-performing Health & Safety team in MKO to deliver Health & Safety consultancy services
  • Proactively managing all aspects of operational health & safety for all MKO’s activities
  • Promoting a safety culture throughout MKO.

This is an exciting role that will allow the successful candidate to lead MKO’s Health & Safety consultancy service offering, build a team around them and develop an industry-leading reputation for Health & Safety services.

The successful candidate will also have the opportunity to reconfigure the company approach to health and safety management. They will also be given the opportunity to grow the role into more specialist areas, including HAZID and HAZOP evaluations and risk assessments.

Key Requirements

The ideal candidate will have a third level qualification in Safety and Health at Work, have completed a PSDP course, and have at least 6 years work experience in a health & safety management role, with experience in:

  • Fulfilling and coordinating the role of Project Supervisor for the Design Process (PSDP)
  • Mentoring, supporting and building the capability of colleagues that report to them
  • Achieving ISO 45001 certification and maintenance of the standard
  • Occupational Health and Safety Management for a workforce of >50 staff
  • Maintaining company Health & Safety statistics for competitive project tendering processes
  • Evaluating and approval of sub-contractor Risk Assessment and Method Statements

Other desirable qualifications include:

  • IOSH Managing Safely Certification
  • QQI Level 6 Manual Handling Instructor
  • Solas accredited Safepass trainer

MKO appreciate the value of hybrid working arrangements. Our Health & Safety Director will be office based for 2-3 days per week and free to work from their location of choice for the remainder of the time.
