FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

JOB PURPOSE: Housekeeper performs a variety of cleaning tasks to maintain rooms, offices, hallways, and other assigned areas, keeps all areas in a sanitary, attractive and orderly condition.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Housekeeping

· Performs any duties that are necessary for daily cleaning for assigned rooms and areas.

· Dusting furniture and fixtures

· Scrubbing and sanitizing showers, bathtubs, toilets, countertops, and sinks

· Vacuuming and cleaning carpets, doormats, and rugs

· Stocking and maintaining an inventory of housekeeping supplies.

· Does annual cleaning as required

Safety

· Follows all safety procedures and protocols and reports all hazardous conditions, defective equipment, accidents, or incidents to the charge nurse immediately

· Performs all job responsibilities in accordance with prescribed safety and infection control procedures including wearing PPE as appropriate, thorough hand washing, use of disposable gloves where indicated, and proper disposal of soiled materials.

· Assists in maintaining a safe, neat, and clean environment; reports environmental deficiencies such as lighting or equipment problems to the Charge Nurse or Maintenance Department.

· Demonstrates a thorough knowledge of safety procedures

Miscellaneous

  • Demonstrates initiative in observing what needs to be done and does it without having to be asked to do so.

· Remains in compliance with employee handbook and other established community guidelines

· Communicates with co-workers, management, sisters, visitors, families, and others in a courteous, tactful, and professional manner

· Conforms with and abide by all regulations, policies, work procedures and instructions,

· Other duties as requested.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education, Competencies and Experience

Required

· Housekeeping experience

· Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

· Ability to operate housekeeping equipment.

· Ability to use housekeeping supplies and chemicals.

· Ability to care for housekeeping equipment, know how to prepare solutions and be alert to hazards.

· Team player and service orientation

· A willingness to offer additional assistance

Preferred Qualifications

· High school diploma from an accredited school or GED.

· Prior experience in a healthcare or religious organization

· Understanding and appreciation of the traditions and culture associated with the Sisters of Mercy
