Industrial Cleaner

Summary:

  • Working independently, keeps building in clean and orderly condition performing any combination of duties that vary based on office and/or industrial setting.

Responsibilities:

  • Cleans rooms, hallways, lobbies, lounges, rest rooms, corridors, elevators, stairways, and locker rooms and other work areas.
  • Empties waste baskets; cleans floors, rugs, carpets, upholstered furniture, and draperies.
  • Dusts all areas that are empty or cleared; replenishes bathroom supplies; washes walls, ceiling, woodwork, windows, door panels, and sills.
  • Vacuums all entranceways daily and other carpet areas as needed; cleans screens and filters; operates a floor scrubber, cleans water fountains; replaces light bulbs.
  • Polishes metalwork; transports trash and waste to disposal area; cleans lint, dust, oil, and grease from machines, overhead pipes, and conveyors; scrubs processing tanks and vats; applies floor dry material where necessary; picks up reusable scrap for salvage and stores in containers; picks up refuse from plant grounds and operates industrial truck to transport materials within plant.
  • Starts pumps to force cleaning solution through production machinery, piping, or vats in an industrial setting; starts pumps to lubricate machines.
  • Notifies management concerning need for major repairs or additions to lighting, heating, and ventilating equipment.
  • Adheres to company/customer safety procedures.
  • May replace air-conditioner filters and clean kitchen and/or lunchroom.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED) or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Ability to: read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos; add and subtract two digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10's and 100's; Perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume, and distance; apply common sense understanding to carry out simple one- or two-step instructions; deal with standardized situations with only occasional or no variables.
  • One to three year of related experience.
  • Must be a team player, organized, self-motivated and able to prioritize.

Physical Demands and Working Conditions:

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands/fingers to handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb, ascend/descend or balance to heights that may require a ladder or lift; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl in confined spaces; and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to sit. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move more than 50 pounds. The employee is regularly required to use close vision and color vision. The employee is occasionally exposed to outside weather conditions and risk of electrical shock. Work is typically performed in a factory environment and is usually very loud. In the factory environment, the employee may be exposed to hazardous materials and/or greasy or slippery factory floors.
