Position Overview:

Work includes all phases of installation of traffic signal loop detector devices. Employees will experience being tired, wet, dirty, and cold; however, they will also earn a weekly paycheck at prevailing wage rates plus additional pay when working nights. We maintain several active contracts with various municipalities in San Diego County, Imperial County, plus CalTrans. A person in this position will work in a three to five person team. No prior experience is required.

We specialize in: Traffic Signals and Street Lights, Loop Detectors, Public Safety Cameras, and Parking Lot Lighting.

Position Responsibilities:

• Establish and maintain temporary traffic control as per plans/permits
• Locate existing or install new pull boxes
• Cut asphalt or concrete channels into roadway as per plan or layout
• Install loop detection wire
• Apply asphaltic emulsion to seal wires within channels
• Install stub-out conduit under curb and gutter
• Splice loop wires to digital loop carrier wire
• Maintain situational awareness at work sites and take appropriate actions to ensure a safe work area.
• Able to work well within the team and demonstrate a competitive spirit
• Cooperate with and effectively communicate amongst the Southwest Signal team.
• Provide accurate, clear, and concise reporting on all work performed on a daily basis

Position Requirements:

• Must be at least 18 years old
• Valid Driver's License; DMV report must accompany application
• Pass a pre-employment drug screen and physical
• Ability to lift 80lbs for a distance greater than 20ft
• Willingness to work nights, per job requirements

Distinguishing (Bonus) Qualifications:

• Journeyman Electrician or Equivalent

Pay Frequency:

• Weekly

Typical start time:

• 7AM when working day shift
• 7PM when working night shift
