The Opportunity and Job Description
P.K. Yonge Developmental Research School (DRS) is seeking to hire an Exceptional Student Education Coordinator for the 2023-2024 school year. Responsibilities include:
- Responsible for compliance related to Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and Educational Plans (EPs) within the Exceptional Student Education Department
- Responsible for compliance related to 504 plans
- Serves as local educational authority representative (LEA) for Exceptional Student Education meetings
- Responsible for ensuring that all exceptional student educational services are provided and monitored on an ongoing basis
- Provides leadership and vision to ensure continuous organizational development and improvement in ESE
- Collaborates effectively with leadership, families, students, teachers, counselors and community for the purpose of planning, developing, implementing, maintaining, and evaluating educational services and programs
- Collaborates with Director(s) of Elementary and Secondary Programs
- Implements conflict resolution skills with staff, families, students and the community
- Evaluates exceptional student education program implementation in compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations
- Serves as a facilitator for meetings and processes for the purpose of implementing a personalized, exceptional student education program
- Manages fiscal resources from allocated funds including but not limited to federal and state grants and program funds, prepares budgets and directs spending when applicable, monitors effort across the exceptional student education department for the purpose of fiscal efficiency in providing all required services
- Prepares documentation and reports data related to Exceptional Student Education
- Coordinates with outside agencies as needed for the purpose of providing high quality, exceptional student education services.
- Maintains a high level of knowledge regarding developing special education issues, changes in the laws and case law, and educational methods of educating students with disabilities, for the purpose of managing an excellent special education program. Incorporates policies and procedures in accordance with laws and regulations. Ensures that all practices in the district are legal and ethical for each student/family so that each child has the opportunity to achieve at a high level and be prepared for post-secondary success.
- Writes drafts of district policy for special education as needed or required, for the purpose of assuring program consistency and compliance with state and federal rules
- Ensure services are aligned with instructional design and goals
- Supervises Administrative Specialist 2 specific to Exceptional Student Education
- Supervises personnel responsible for the management of Individualized Education Plans and 504s in grades 6-12
- Collaborates and coaches personnel responsible for the management of Individualized Education Plans and 504s grades K-5
- Consults with the Occupational Therapist on related services
- Completes the annual writing and submission of IDEA grant and related reporting requirements
- Maintains and submits all required documentation for College Board accommodations and coordinates with Director of Assessment and Accountability and their designee(s) to carry out all required services annually
- Performs other related duties as assigned

- A Master’s degree; candidates with Bachelor’s degree will be considered, but will be required to obtain a Master’s degree within three years of hire.
- Florida teaching certification that includes Exceptional Student Education
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Demonstrated commitment to diversity and effective strategies for motivating and teaching students with differing abilities from a variety of backgrounds
- FDLE Background check
3+ years of K-12 teaching experience
