IRRIGATION SERVICE TECHNICIAN

1. Position description: The Irrigation Service Technician must be generally familiar with and in the process of learning all aspects of irrigation systems to include: wiring controllers and valves, pressure testing, trenching/pulling pipe; installing heads, rotors, valves, main and lateral lines, drip line, bubblers, etc.; operating equipment, ordering correct materials, installing commercial and residential irrigation systems; and interfacing with customers, subcontractors, architects, etc. Requires minimal supervision and conducts all jobs in a safe manner and while directing a crew of two to four employees. The Irrigation Service Technician must also attend to and complete all paperwork and administrative requirements related to the job while helping to create and maintain a professional job atmosphere.

2. Reports to: The Irrigation Service Technician reports directly to Production Manager/ Supervisor.

3. Skill set and educational requirements: The Irrigation Service Technician must possess the following skill set and educational background:
A. Minimum of a high school diploma or GED.
B. Possesses a valid driver’s license and must be insurable on company’s insurance policy.
C. Have a clean criminal record.
D. Have full range of mobility in upper and lower body.
E. Legal documentation to verify employment eligibility.
F. Physically able to handle the work load of an Irrigation Technician.
G. Able to lift 50 pounds without assistance.
H. Bilingual in Spanish and English in oral and written forms.
I. Is in process of becoming a certified irrigation technician (CIT).
J. Able to interact with customers in a professional and courteous manner on a daily basis.

4. Responsibilities:
A. Has a minimum of one year of experience in irrigation service/installation.
B. Generally understands all aspects of irrigation as outlined above.
C. Able to operate most company equipment: trenches, pullers, trucks, tampers, etc.
D. Able to perform all daily preventative maintenance (PM) on company equipment.
E. Knowledge on operating irrigation Aspire software, GPS locator system for controllers, valves, heads, rotors, etc.
F. Learning to read irrigation plans and drawings.
G. Able to lay out the job site and ordering materials.
H. Has the leadership capability and demeanor to effectively manage and direct a crew of two to four people.
I. Meets or exceeds company production standards for irrigation installation.
J. Assists in keeping jobs on schedule and on budget.
K. Assists in ensuring that all safety procedures are followed and reports any unsafe conditions to supervisors.
L. Assists in ensuring all workers’ compensation insurance claims are properly documented and reported immediately.
M. Assists in ensuring all accidents are properly documented and reported immediately.

N. Looks for extras and converts them into change orders when appropriate.
O. Assists in ensuring all change orders are processed correctly.
P. Assists in interfacing with subcontractors to ensure timely and accurate completion of their phase of projects.
Q. Assists in interfacing with suppliers to ensure timely and accurate delivery of job materials.
R. Assists in ensuring that company production standards are met.
S. Maintains a clean crew truck at all times.
T. Assists in filling out and processing all necessary job paperwork, purchase orders, and time sheets, etc.
U. Able to interact with clients, subcontractors, architects, etc. in a professional and competent manner.
V. Assists on training crews as a team and maintaining a high level of morale.
W. Assists in ensuring that job cost reports are properly analyzed.
X. Thoroughly understands and complies with company policies, procedures, and SOPs.
Y. Able to work with minimal supervision from Irrigation Service Manager/Supervisor, but knows when to ask for assistance.
Z. Is certified in CPR and First Aid.
AA. Continuing education requirement: minimum of 10 hours per year.

5. Salary, bonus, and/or commissions: Commensurate with experience ($22.00 to $30.00 per hour).

6. Appraisal criteria: The primary appraisal criteria for the Irrigation Service Technician is to be able to perform all irrigation service tasks in a safe manner with minimal supervision, while meeting or exceeding company production standards and maintaining a high level of crew morale.
