Background
The Risk, Compliance and Professional Standards (RCPS) department in Grant Thornton Ireland provides internal firm support services to all offices in Ireland in many specialist areas as follows:
  • Client acceptance and continuance;
  • Legal and data protection;
  • Audit methodology and accounting technical support;
  • Quality and risk management; and
  • Insolvency compliance;
The RCPS team provide strategic, innovative, creative and most importantly quality services and solutions to enable our people every day to give the best external client service. The RCPS team promotes and monitors compliance with applicable auditing and accounting standards, external laws and regulations as well as internal policies and procedures to help manage Grant Thornton’s regulatory, litigation and reputational risk.
Opportunity
Grant Thornton is actively planning for the implementation of the IAASB suite of quality management standards which apply to firms who carry out audits or reviews of financial statements, other assurance or related service engagements. The standards require the firm to take a risk based approach and be proactive in managing risks to achieving quality on the engagements by developing a system of quality management. The quality implementation role will play a key role in implementing the new IAASB quality standards by supporting the quality team. After the implementation of the standards there will be the opportunity to move into a monitoring role within the team.
Roles and responsibilities include:
  • Organising and facilitating meetings between Risk, Compliance & Professional Standards (RCPS) department and the component leads and managing partner;
  • Working with Grant Thornton International to fulfil requirements set out by Grant Thornton International;
  • Taking minutes of meetings and drafting minutes with appropriate action points;
  • Following up on action points arising from meetings;
  • Assisting in identifying gaps in current control environment;
  • Assisting component leads in documenting controls and addressing gaps identified;
  • Inputting data into the tool used for quality management and keeping this up to date;
  • Maintenance and analysis of key quality and risk data;
  • Participate on key initiatives to develop and implement quality standards processes and tools; and
  • Provide first line support to client facing and other operational teams for quality related activities.
Required skills and attributes include:
  • preferably an audit/assurance background with knowledge of quality and risk management within audit firms or advisory background with knowledge of advising clients on control implementation
  • excellent project management skills
  • must be highly motivated with an ability to take ownership for themselves and eager to learn;
  • excellent attention to detail;
  • strong communication (both verbal and written) and presentation skills; and
  • excellent team player
