The Joint Navigation Warfare Center (JNWC) supports the US Strategic Command mission to inform Combat Commanders of military capabilities and vulnerabilities. The Information Systems Specialist – Junior will be part of an information systems team responsible for planning, installing, monitoring, and maintaining JNWC networks and equipment. The JNWC has a variety of classified and unclassified networks and a significant quantity of IT equipment dedicated to various purposes.
This team member will employ their skills to support the JNWC mission at Kirtland AFB, NM in several different facilities. Occasionally, travel is required to support JNWC staff and mission requirements in the field. This position will challenge the knowledge and skills of any candidate but allow accelerated professional growth and experience for the right team member. Candidate requires a security clearance.
Responsibilities:
- Plan and install information technology (IT) systems for JNWC staff and respond to IT issues reported to the Help Desk
- Document IT serial numbers and locations in the ADPE inventory to ensure proper accounting for Government IT equipment
- Install and configure software on IT systems, update images consistent with new releases
- Respond to anomalous behaviors reported by IT Help Desk ticket
- Maintain information systems employing networks to deploy upgrades and patches.
- Conform to security and information assurance requirements described by the JNWC Cybersecurity Plan.
- Participate in IT Team lessons learned sessions intended to improve the quality of JNWC IT support.
- Comply with IT security program and procedures to protect information and resources in accordance with DoD IT security regulations and directives.
- Implement firewalls, antivirus software, networking monitoring applications, and active intrusion detection systems.
- Establish proficiency with Top Secret/Sensitive Compartmented Information (TS/SCI) and Special Access Required (SAR) information systems, network operations, system management and user interfaces in a team environment
Required Skills:
- Possess or be able to acquire Security+ certification in a timely manner based on previous experience.
- Ability to install or move information technology systems to support new or existing staff requirements.
- Ability to install system images consistent with the 377th Air Base Wing and JNWC software standards.
- Ability to quickly determine root cause and perform corrective action in response to system failures or issues.
Preferred Skills:
- Ability to establish IT security program and procedures in accordance with DoD IT security regulations and directives.
Required Experience:
- Experience in Government IT Team environment
- Active Secret Clearance, ability to get and maintain TS/SCI
- 3-5 years’ experience in IT-related field; Help Desk preferred
- High School Diploma (Education can offset experience requirement)
Preferred Experience:
- Bachelors in information technology or equivalent field
- Military Information Technology or related experience
- Security+ Certification
- Experience with classified IT systems
