Job description
Responsibilities:
- Develops and maintains a long-term, strategic labor relations plans in support of company’s initiatives and corporate goals
- Resides as the expert in employment law and labor relations issues
- Interprets and advises on employment-related legislation
- Leads all labor relations activities including collective bargaining, grievance handling, arbitrations, mediations, and union avoidance strategies
- Participates in and advises senior management regarding labor relations strategies and relationships
- Provides advice to senior management on administration of the Collective Agreements
- Consults with senior management on organizational design matters to ensure organization structure and positions support business objectives
- Develops labor relations policies, procedures and manuals, as needed
- Conducts daily, weekly and monthly reviews of key labor relations metrics and recommends strategies and solutions for improvements
- Consults with the business development department to assist in labor relations strategies and issues with new business opportunities
- Ensures the accuracy, confidential and safekeeping of personnel documents and records
- All other duties as assigned
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent knowledge in labor relations
- Excellent communication and presentation skills with an ability to influence people at all levels of the organization
- Knowledge of all applicable provincial laws and regulations
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Knowledge of best in class labor relations programs
- Highly organized with the ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously while exceeding established goals and objectives
- Analytical with a strong attention to detail
- Strong leadership skills with the ability to set clear expectations, coach, develop and motivate staff
- Ability to maintain the highest levels of confidentiality
- Ability to hold the respect and confidence of all employees
- Ability to work independently and objectively
- Ability to effectively delegate tasks and provide appropriate supervision and follow up to department staff
- Proficient in Microsoft Office software
- Demonstrated ability to manage with a “Safety First” attitude
