Description
The Department for Facilities Management, Division of Building Services, is responsible for preventive maintenance, general repairs, small construction projects, janitorial and landscaping services, plus many other essential day-to-day building functions. If you have experience in the Horticulture field, you may be just the person we need. We have an opening for a Landscape Gardener II. This position is a key member of the Horticulture team. If you love getting your hands dirty and working outside, this may be the job for you as part of a team that helps maintain the immaculate landscape at the State owned buildings throughout Frankfort. You will interact daily with tenants, visitors and other staff while performing landscaping and grounds maintenance activities. The primary mission of Building Services Horticulture Branch is to ensure the grounds and decor are maintained at a high standard. You will get to work on multiple projects at different locations and learn proper landscaping techniques.

Key Responsibilities
- Works with the staff in mowing and weed eating of the grounds, planting and trimming trees, shrubs and flowers and the use of fertilizer and pesticides throughout the campuses.
- Snow removal from roads, parking lots and sidewalks.
- Operating equipment used with the associated duties.
- Preventive maintenance.
- Assist in coordinating repairs and/or projects.
- Support special events such as Derby, Christmas and Inauguration.
- Customer Service and good tenant relations.

Minimum Requirements
EDUCATION: High school graduate.
EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, OR SKILLS: Must have two years of experience in grounds maintenance, golf course greenskeeping, landscaping, farming, or other related experience.
Substitute EDUCATION for EXPERIENCE: College courses in horticulture or related fields, technical training in horticulture or related fields, or possession of a Kentucky Nurseryman's Certification or other related trade certification will substitute for the required experience.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS (AGE, LICENSURE, REGULATION, ETC.): Must possess a valid driver's license prior to appointment in this classification. Must maintain any required licensure(s), certification(s), or other credentials for the length of employment in this classification. Employing agency is responsible for ensuring employee possesses and maintains required licensure(s), certification(s) or other credentials.
Working Conditions
Work outdoors in all weather conditions. Operate power equipment and work with pesticides. Exposed to loud noises and sharp objects.
Probationary Period
This job has an initial and promotional probationary period of 6 months, except as provided in KRS 18A.111.
