As a Laser Scan / Metrology Technician with M&M Engineering / Acuren, you will be an integral part of this growing service line providing solutions to new and existing customers. Our service line is utilizing multiple types of 3D scanning instrument, UAV’s and software to create best in class 3D digital twin models and reports.
As a Laser Scan / Metrology Technician you will report directly to the Dimensional Metrology Manager with supervision from the Operations Lead. You will also be active in field and office activities of gathering, processing, and creating the analysis reports and deliverables.
- Specific Responsibilities
- Perform 3D laser scanning of physical facilities using long range laser scanners. (i.e. Leica, Faro, Surphaser, etc.)
- Prepare superior quality 3D models, drawings, or similar deliverables for internal and external clients.
- Have and understanding and knowledge in Leica Cyclone, Autodesk Recap, Faro Scene, Aveva LFM, Creaform VX Elements/Pipecheck, GOM Inspect, and/or other supporting software packages.
- Have an understanding and know-how of various 3D Modeling - CAD platforms (i.e. AutoCAD, Plant3D, Solidworks, Inventor, etc.).
- Utilize 3D laser scan point cloud data to generate 3D Models, 2D Isometrics, perform P&ID / PFD validation.
- Perform 3D point cloud data processing and deliverable creation.
- Perform 3D metrology scanning of high precision mechanical assemblies and parts using short-range laser scanners as well as structured light instruments. (i.e. Creaform, Hexagon, ATOS, etc.)
- Understanding of GD&T (ASME Y14.5) Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing methods not required but is a plus.
- Support Internal/External Customers i.e.; Sales and Marketing, customer demonstrations, seminars, conference calls, blogs, webinars, presales client visits etc.
- Assist in planning and execution of field and lab projects.
- Assist in QA/QC of all deliverable types.
- Confer with customer representatives to review schematics and answer questions pertaining to results.
- Working from sketches, notes and other input materials, develop detailed AutoCAD drawings.
- Review of contract documents with team members and checking of drawings for accuracy and coordination.
- Surveying background is preferred.
- UAV – Part 107 not required but a plus.
Education and Experience Requirements

- Associates or Bachelor’s in Industrial Sector preferred.
- Minimum of 2 year working in the 3D Scanning / Metrology and / or 3D Modeling industry required.
- Strong leadership and good people skills a must.
- Must be able to work flexible hours (nights, weekends and out of town work).
- Work well under pressure and understands deadlines.
- May have to work in extreme temperatures/environments.
- Ability to quickly learn new software tools and teach others on your team.
- Build team spirit by assisting other staff members.
- Follow management direction on assigned tasks.
- Ability to establish priorities and proceed with objectives without supervision.
- Request direction when not assigned a task.
- Work on special projects as assigned by management team.
- Good organizational skills.
- Able to pass drug screen.
- Able to lift 50lbs or more.
- Able to acquire a passport for traveling.
- Ability to obtain a TWIC card.
