About us

Kittery Point Yacht Club is located in New Castle NH, on the southern shore of the Piscataqua River. Its clubhouse stands opposite Seavey Island, home of the historic Portsmouth Naval Shipyard. Ships from all over the world pass before it, vying with local lobster and fishing boats during the week and hundreds of pleasure boats on holidays and weekends.

A member of the US Sailing association, KPYC is well represented in local, regional and occasionally national events, with members racing and cruising a variety of boats. The KPYC sponsors the KPYC Sailing School, the Seacoast’s only public sailing school and youth racing program.

Our members are drawn primarily from surrounding states of New Hampshire and Maine, with some living farther away during the winters. Most enjoy common interests in boating and organized social activities during the main season from May to October. Pot luck dinners and casual gatherings are often found throughout the year

Kittery Point Yacht Club is located on the Piscataqua River in New Castle New Hampshire. As a private yacht club of 200 members we are looking for FT/PT seasonal Launch Operators (Steward). May-October employment. The Steward is responsible for the safe passage of members and guests to and from their boats. Responsible for maintaining clean appearance of the club, docks, and launch. The Launch Operator will report directly to the House Chair who is responsible for the overall condition of the club facilities.

Requirement: A valid and current U.S.C.G. License (reimbursement opportunity for a successful passing of the examination). The Steward must have a positive attitude and be a team member. Must be able to work weekends and holidays. Perform other related duties, tasks and responsibilities as required. Assist members as needed Open or Close depending on shift.

Schedule: Shifts and Schedules are flexible but all must be across the team. Launch Hours are Tuesday/Thursday/Friday 2pm- 9pm Saturday/Sunday 8am-Sunset (9pm). Holidays will function like a Saturday/Sunday schedule. Typically the day will be split amongst stewards and will be discussed during the hiring process but requirements/hours might change slightly depending on club events and seasonal needs (Summer vs Fall Schedules).

Qualifications and Experience: Valid and current U.S.C.G. License, Valid Boaters License, Drivers License. A general understanding of boat maneuvering and familiarity with marine maintenance is a strong plus.

Pay rate is based on experience and must be 18 years or older.

Reports to House Chair

• Maintain a safe and clean clubhouse and dock
• Flag raising and lowering:
• Assure that the United States Flag and the Kittery Point Yacht Club Burgee are raised daily at 0800
• Lowered at sunset with purpose and ceremony.
• The appropriate burgee for the most senior Flag Officer present is to be hoisted upon that Officer’s arrival at the Club.
• Maintain a professional appearance:
• KPYC shirt, khaki pants/shorts, proper grooming, proper footwear.
• Maintain and keep clean the KPYC launches:
• Check for fuel and oil levels.
• Refer to the “Launch Checklist” in the dock house.
• Assist boats coming in for dockage.
• Keep the docks properly maintained.
• Refer to the “Dock Inspection” checklist in the dock house.
• Pump out dinghies as necessary.
• Maintain and keep clean the outside seating area, gas grilles and water plants.
• Explanation of hours of operation and Club rules.
• Provide local area maps and information as requested.
• Dock hands with valid Launch driver’s license:
• Transport KPYC members and visiting yachtsmen to and from their vessels.
