Database Administration at Mastercard

Mastercard’s Database Engineering team manages one of the world’s largest and most complex data sets. Our database administrators' deliver secure, scalable and resilient data infrastructure, helping our teams access the data they need to deploy best-in-class solutions for Fortune 500s, governments, non-profits, and small businesses around the world.

As a Lead Database Administrator specialising in No-SQL platforms, you will blend an in-depth technical knowledge of engineering data services using Redis and other data platforms. We want someone with a passion for data who is committed to build high quality extensible code and has a good problem-solving ability. The team you will be joining will assist with designing database tiers for Mastercard’s global systems, providing the organization with robust and high-performing production environments. You will partner with system engineers, database developers, and other database administrators regularly.

This role is split between 40% architecture and 60% engineering, where you can be an individual contributor and/or influence the strategic direction of the Database Engineering program with people and project management. As a Lead Database Administrator you’ll build strong partnerships with Mastercard’s leadership teams and may manage operational and/or strategic initiatives to support the broader team’s development.

About You
We’re looking for candidates with the following skills:

Advanced hands-on experience in configuring, patching, upgrading, and optimizing database software and related products

Advanced experience in security, backup/recovery, architecture, networking, and administration for assigned database discipline

Expertise and deep understanding in Database Replication setup (both Physical and Logical), configuration, and troubleshooting

Proven track record working with technology teams for the development, maintenance, testing, implementation, and support of assigned database technologies and associated software products

Proactive monitoring of internal database issues and those escalated by the business, with strong ability to drive to the root cause and resolve quickly

Know how to build partnerships and translate technical needs into business terms both internally and externally

Successfully follow change management, problem management and incident management processes and procedures

Experience with IAC Automation tools for DB builds, patching, and maintenance

Ability to architect solutions that address enterprise-wide initiatives in a global environment

Advanced written and verbal communication skills

Proven track record proactively coordinating large technical efforts within and across teams

Ability to influence Mastercard best practices in planning, coordinating, implementing, and maintaining database solutions

Experience training and mentoring team members by contributing to knowledge management and documentation

Create a positive culture and embodies the Mastercard Way

**Desirable Knowledge/Experience**

  • Database Technologies: Redis, Cassandra, MongoDB. The ideal candidate should have excellent in-depth knowledge of Redis Technologies & Architecture, other experience is desirable but not essential.
  • Experience integrating vendor and open-source products into an overall system
