The Undergraduate Medical Programme at University of Galway is a 5 year programme, with approximately 215 students in each year. Approximately a third of our annual intake is from outside the EU. The clinical phase of the curriculum (comprising structured class- based teaching, simulation, mentorship and clinical placements) is delivered at the central hospital site of University Hospital Galway and the adjoining Clinical Science Institute in Galway, in addition to our 4 Medical Academies located at Sligo University Hospital, Letterkenny University Hospital, Mayo University Hospital and Portiuncula Hospital.
Applications are invited for an appointment as Lecturer Above the Bar in Medical Education- 5MB Academic Coordinator (0.5 FTE). The post will be an appointment to the School of Medicine and primarily to Year 5 of the Undergraduate Medical Programme.
The post holder will lead on programme delivery and evaluation to undergraduate medical students in Year 5, the final year of the programme, under the supervision of Head of Medicine, Director of the Undergraduate Medical Programme, and the Undergraduate Curriculum Development Group.
The postholder will lead on curriculum development in Year 5 of the programme, in line with curriculum development strategy. They will work as part of the Year 5 core academic team comprising Year Head, Academic Coordinator, Assessment Coordinator and Year 5 Administrative support staff. They will lead and support the 5MB clinical lecturer team to deliver the Year 5 programme across all sites. They will be available for teaching, assessment and programme development in other years of the programme as the academic calendar allows.
The successful applicant will have a medical degree and will have completed a postgraduate qualification in higher education.
Other duties will include scholarly contributions to medical education.
The successful candidate will have an emerging track record in research and publication and will be expected to contribute to the medical education research agenda of the School of Medicine.

At Lecturer above the Bar level
€70,849 p.a. to € 92,148 pro rata p.a.
(This appointment will be made on the Lecturer (Above the Bar) scale in line with current Government pay policy)
(For pre 1995 public sector entrants in Ireland, the D class Salary rates will apply)
