General Statement of Job:
The Librarian I - Public Services provides reference and instruction services to students, faculty, staff, and community users; and develops, promotes, implements, maintains, and helps evaluate library programs and services.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Provides reference and consultation services in person, by phone, and through the use of virtual reference technology.
  • Provides library instruction in accordance with the Association of College and Research Libraries (ACRL) guidelines for academic libraries, in both face-to-face and online teaching environments.
  • Assists in developing, implementing, and assessing library instruction services.
  • Serves as library liaison to assigned academic departments.
  • Participates in collection development activities.
  • Creates and maintains course and subject guides and related subject-specific electronic resources.
  • Assists in developing and maintaining library webpage and social media content as assigned.
  • Assists and trains library patrons in the utilization of the librarys online resources.
  • Assists in developing and maintaining online collections and services.
  • Assists with library programming.
  • Assists with circulation services, as needed.
  • Assists in training and supervising Library Public Services Direct-Wage and Classified staff.
  • Assists in maintaining current, accurate departmental files and records and procedures manuals.
  • Maintains a professional knowledge of library and information science; keeps current on developments of specific job-related fields.
  • Participates in a variety of committees as assigned.
  • Builds and maintains excellent public/working relationships with coworkers, students, faculty and staff.
  • Travels throughout the college district, as needed.
  • Is able and equipped to complete typical tasks remotely as needed.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.



Required Education and Experience:
  • Masters degree in Library Science and/or Information Science from an American Library Association (ALA) accredited program required.
  • At least two (2) years of demonstrated library instruction experience in face-to-face and/or online classrooms, preferred.
  • Recent academic library experience, preferred.

  • Must have or qualify for a valid Texas drivers license and proof of liability insurance.
