Rappahannock Community College ( RCC ) is a two-campus institution serving a rural and diverse 12-county area in the Chesapeake Bay region of Virginia, whose mission is to provide inclusive access to exceptional training and educational opportunities meeting the community’s needs and preparing individuals for success as learners, employees, and citizens.
RCC invites applications for a part-time Library Assistant who shares RCC’s values of integrity, diversity, equity, and inclusion, excellence, access, and learning for life. Reporting to the Coordinator of Learning Resources, the Library Assistant will provide reliable, timely, and excellent customer service to students, faculty, staff, and community members. This is a customer-facing position that assists patrons with technology applications on library and personal devices, and provides circulation and basic reference services. The successful candidate must be able to work flexible hours to include evenings and weekends. This is a part-time 29 hour per week position with no benefits. This posting will be used to fill a floating position between Warsaw and Glenns campuses.

The Library Assistant is responsible for duties including but not limited to: library reception and circulation services; checking in/out materials using an integrated library system (Alma); assisting patrons with locating materials, intercampus and interlibrary loan services, and course reserves; maintaining an orderly collection and library space; ensuring printers and supply stations remain stocked at all times; emptying book drops and logging in periodicals daily; assisting students with the online student information system, course management software (Canvas), and email; assisting patrons with printing/copying; providing basic reference assistance, including instruction in use of catalog; and performing other tasks as assigned by the coordinator.

Special Assignments

May be required to perform other duties as assigned. May be required to assist the agency or state government generally in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor.



KSA's/Required Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent. Strong customer service and communication skills. Ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing, with a diverse population of students, parents, faculty, administrators, and community patrons. Experience using a variety of computer applications and software required. Ability and eagerness to learn new technologies associated with learning resources.

Preferred Qualifications
Associate’s degree or the equivalent in education, training, and experience. Experience working in an educational setting. Prior library work experience. Familiarity with the Integrated Library System, Alma. Familiarity with academic library databases.

This is a part-time 29 hour per week position with no benefits.

Ability to lift up to 20 pounds/push up to 40 pounds. Ability to reach above/below shoulder height. This position requires frequent sitting, standing, and walking; and occasional use of a rolling library stool.
