At Lycoming Engines, we’re pushing past possible and reaching for the extraordinary. By leveraging 95 years of technical innovation, heartfelt collaboration, and enthusiasm for aviation, our team powers the general aviation fleets of the world. We are looking for an aspiring Litigation & Compliance Manager interested in aviation, engineering, and manufacturing to join our dedicated team of technical and legal professionals and contribute to work that really matters.

As part of a collaborative team, you will gain deep insights into the confluence of aviation manufacturing, business, and legal and regulatory risk. We’re committed to fostering a welcoming, respectful, and inclusive environment where every team member is given the resources and support to excel in their career.

The Litigation & Compliance Manager assists the legal team in ensuring that our business is ready for the legal and regulatory challenges associated with being the world leader in aviation piston engines. You will work closely with dedicated legal and technical professionals to conduct investigations, respond to requests for information, prepare witnesses for legal proceedings, and establish and maintain procedures concerning litigation and compliance activities, including product safety and aviation regulation.

As our Litigation & Compliance Manager, you will:

  • Help prepare for litigation by collaborating to develop robust, efficient, persuasive, and defensible arguments supporting our business.
  • Assist in evaluating the legal risks associated with aviation accidents by analyzing NTSB investigation material, court filings, and company records, interviewing witnesses, and working with experts.
  • Maintain litigation and compliance files by establishing matters within our matter management systems, capturing documents, dates, and important updates related to litigation, and closing the file once litigation has ended.
  • Investigate facts related to legal claims, including product liability, collections, property damage, contracts, government audits, and other legal and regulatory matters.
  • Review vendor bills to ensure compliance with billing guidelines and work with vendors to ensure timely billing, reporting, and budget submission.
  • Help develop and implement templates, processes, and workflows to simplify legal issues, manage risk, and reduce stress on coworkers.
  • Manage our legal hold program to ensure documents related to litigation are preserved by initiating appropriate holds, interviewing custodians, and working with key stakeholders.
  • Support our records retention and information governance programs.

To ensure you are successful, this role includes the following:

  • A welcoming, respectful, and inclusive environment where every team member is given the resources and support to excel in their career.
  • Training and certification pathways to become a certified Litigation Management Professional.
  • Expectation for ad-hoc and formal continued education in aviation and business law, litigation management, general aviation, air safety, manufacturing, and piloting.

Here is what you will bring to the role:

  • Enthusiasm for aviation and defense work and desire to be a part of a team that is relentlessly committed to exceeding customer expectations.
  • A bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience, preferably in a technical, business, or legal concentration.
  • A strong sense of organization and passion for continual improvement.
  • An inquisitive mind and ability to communicate clearly, ask thoughtful questions, and analyze new issues.
  • A capacity to learn quickly and work with minimal supervision while maintaining high levels of integrity, confidentiality, and discretion.
  • Ability to rapidly identify, analyze and address complicated issues, and distill that complexity into simple and concise communication to influence outcomes in cross-functional settings.
  • Willingness to travel periodically.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance.
  • Willingness to perform other duties as assigned.
