Position Role Type:

As part of the Avionics business based in Burnsville, Minnesota this Mechanical Engineering position is responsible for performing technical assignments to support research, development, design, and test of video systems within the Vision and Connected Systems portfolio.

This includes primarily electronic packaging solutions for cameras, both internal and external to aircraft, as well as electronic packaging or mounting solutions for other aircraft computer systems (for example, ARINC 600 units or general processing units). The supported products may be new designs and modifications or improvements to existing designs.

This is an Onsite role at our Burnsville MN facility.

Current projects with upcoming needs are:

1. Support development of new line of smart video systems that include cameras, microphones, concentrators, and computing units.

2. Support development of pilot assist camera systems that include eye monitoring camera and infrared emitters within the flight deck.

3. Support evaluation of exterior camera upgrades

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Create and release documentation for new product design work; including concepts, drawings, CAD files, test procedures, test reports, and various analyses for electronic packaging solutions.
  • Perform studies on potential camera installation locations within flight deck and cabin. Use combination of CAD, in-house mock-ups, blueprints, and survey data with field of view information. Consider pilot head positions, infrared coverage, lighting interactions for flight deck applications. Consider persons, monuments, infrared coverage, and lighting interactions for smart video applications.
  • Support or lead the evaluation of your specific design concepts for camera aspects pertaining to lens, focus, alignment, field of view, locking, producibility, etc. This can include developing new and innovative ways to implement or measure these aspects.
  • Support products throughout the project life cycle, support production sustainment activities, and design data configuration management responsibilities.
  • Work toward commonality and optimization of product & components to reduce design errors and escapes.
  • Complete or direct environmental testing to support development and formal certification.

Qualifications/Experience Required:

Typically requires:

  • Bachelor’s degree (typically in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM)) and a minimum of 2 years of prior relevant experience unless prohibited by local laws/regulations
  • In absence of a degree, 6 years of relevant experience is required

Preferred Qualifications:

. The ideal candidate will have experience in some of these areas.

  • Able to generate conceptual and detailed designs for electro-mechanical systems and possess analytical skills to assess impact of designs at a system level, including tolerance analyses.
  • Able to carry out assembly, testing and troubleshooting of subsystems at prototype and integrated system levels.
  • Able to learn PLM system and release documentation to support the design team.
  • Familiar with electronics packaging, circuit card assemblies, connectors, etc.
  • Proficient in 3D solid modeling CAD; prefer Creo (previously Pro/Engineer)
  • Team player with excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Experience with camera or video technologies in some capacity is plus. (Examples could include tasks like image processing, image quality evaluation, lens assembly and focus, machine learning image training, etc.)
  • Strong technical and organizational skills with attention to detail
  • Self-motivated

Remote: Employees who are working in Remote roles will work primarily offsite (from home). An employee may be expected to travel to the site location as needed.
