POSITION SUMMARY: Reporting to the Program Manager (Quality / Production), develop strategies and provide technical direction and support to Metrology Dept. employees to facilitate Quality Control and Production support activities.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES: (This list is not intended to detail all aspects of the assigned work but is representative of the job’s overall responsibilities)

1. Lives the Vigor Values.

2. Manage lead technicians, department personnel, and departmental priorities; resolving interpersonal and interdepartmental conflicts, staffing schedules, hours / overtime, personnel reviews, etc.

3. Provide technical direction to Metrology Dept. personnel in inspection, production support, and fabrication support activities across all corporate locations (Clackamas, Swan Island, Vancouver, Seattle, Ketchikan, etc.).

4. Facilitate Training of new employees on equipment, quality systems controls, and job role. Continue ongoing training with existing employees, encouraging growth and advancement.

5. Internal / external customer liaison for inspection / quality related questions, GD&T usage and applications, and provide information to internal and external requests for information (RFI).

6. Maintain and verify Quality Systems compliance for all work, inspections, procedures and processes performed by department personnel.

7. Work with Internal / external customer to establish inspection plans and processes based on customer requirements and industry standards.

8. Work closely with machinists, fabricators, and production personnel advising on Manufacturing / Production activities to ensure overall product quality; troubleshoot out-of-tolerance and non-conforming features or parts to avoid further future incidents.

9. This person will work closely with HR to obtain/retain diverse people and leading them to be exceptional members of Vigor and as required administer corrective action.

10. Support Build plan meetings as needed. Responsible for determining metrology equipment to complete jobs along with Staffing Plan.

11. Accountable to establish a safe work site and ensure that all leaders and workers adhere to company policies and associated regulatory requirements.

12. Responsible to review and evaluate regularly reported KPIs (weekly, monthly or for other key events or milestones).

13. Responsible to review/verify all weekly production progressing produced/created or updated by Projects.

14. Maintain department equipment, computers and software; facilitating calibration, upgrades, SMA renewals and maintain inventory of consumables. Purchase replacement and/or additional equipment based on long term needs of company. Facilitate rental equipment and subcontract vendors / contractors for short term needs of company.

15. Maintain and encourage a safe working environment including workplace cleanliness and organization.

JOB SCOPE: The position operates within general parameters, but exercises appropriate independent judgment in adjusting priorities, goals and work assignments, methods, procedures and techniques to successfully facilitate the inspection and production support activities of department personnel.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY: Supervises up to 10 or more personnel (Metrology Technicians); providing general to specific direction as required either directly or through Lead Technicians and/or direct supervision.

INTERPERSONAL CONTACTS: The individual interacts with various levels in the company as well as external customers and vendors.

KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Minimum 5yrs experience in manufacturing; including, welding, assembly, machining, and fabrication of steel and other ferrous and non-ferrous metals and composites.
  • +5yrs inspection experience; specifically, using coordinate measuring equipment (FARO, Sokkia, CMM, etc.) and standard hard tools (micrometer, calipers, etc.).
  • +5 years Quality or Engineering management experience preferred
  • ISO, NQA-1, Code of Federal Regulations, and other industry related standards and specification experience.
  • Robust process and project management and documentation control skills.
  • Experience leading interdisciplinary teams and their interactions.
  • Expert level understanding of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing with the ability to train other members of team as necessary.
  • Extensive knowledge of trigonometric functions and XYZ coordinate systems.
  • Ability to focus on problem resolution, maintain flexibility, listen and respond in a manner to convey data clearly and informatively to non-technical personnel both internally and with external customers / vendors.
  • Excellent communication and organization skills; specifically with providing direction and training to subordinates and superiors on quality and inspection related matters.
  • Demonstrate accuracy and apply feedback to improve performance, as well as complete work in a timely manner and strive to increase productivity.
  • Articulate confidence in Metrology systems, projecting assurance to customers, regulators, and others that work performed is of the highest standard.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

Bachelor’s degree or above in Engineering or other technical related field or equivalent job related experience preferred

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:

Professional certification preferred (P.E., CMQ, CQE, CMfgE, etc.)
