The University of Utah is expanding its outreach and engagement efforts with Native and Indigenous communities throughout Utah. In collaboration with the Director of Native American Outreach and Community Engagement and in coordination with campus partners, the Program Coordinator will lead efforts in expanding the University’s engagement with the Navajo Nation and the Ute Mountain Ute tribe. Native and Indigenous people of Utah and those with strong working knowledge of and/or experience with the Navajo Nation and the Ute Mountain Ute tribe are strongly encouraged to apply.
The Coordinator will join a staff working with a robust portfolio of college access and community engagement initiatives in the Office of Undergraduate Studies. We are seeking a colleague who can work independently on-site in Southeastern Utah and closely with campus partners to build a trusting and sustainable relationship between the University of Utah and the Indigenous tribes of Southeastern Utah.
The Coordinator will be responsible for the day-to-day building of relationships with local stakeholders, including those in education, juvenile justice, foster care, and related social services.
Location: Blanding, UT, and surrounding areas.
Responsibilities
- Create relationships with educational and community leaders in the Indigenous areas of Southeastern Utah.
- Maintain a physical presence in Southeastern Utah.
- Plan and deliver curriculum, programming, and events aimed to create an authentic exchange between the University of Utah and the Native tribes of Utah.
- Oversee student retention efforts including regular communication and problem-solving as needed.
- Connect students with campus and community resources such as financial assistance, housing, student success services, first generation services, tutoring, mental health counseling, and other relevant services.
- Work with help and coordinate the colleges and departments at the U who offer programming and services to the region.
- Flexibility to work outside of regular office hours to provide programming and related efforts.
Establishes and carries out procedures for the collection and analyzing of program data.

Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in a related field plus one year directly related experience or equivalency (one year of education can be substituted for two years of related work experience). Demonstrated ability to work independently, analyze and make decisions related to program content. Strong coordination and organizational skills required to prioritize conflicting deadlines. Demonstrated human relations and effective communication skills are also required.
