POSITION SUMMARY

The Nonconforming/RMA & Receiving Inspector performs several quality control tasks and is primarily responsible for providing technical assistance and support for identified nonconforming & RMA materials along with processing quality receiving inspections. This position will support the organization’s nonconforming, RMA, and QCII inspections, receiving inspections, and various continuous improvement initiatives on behalf of the Quality department.

JOB FUNCTIONS
Duties include the following, but other responsibilities may be assigned.
  • Establish quality nonconforming and return material authorization (RMA) standards for the products the company produces.
  • Identify inputs that create nonconformities and defects within the BCI products.
  • Function as one of the team and project leads for the Red Tag MRB (material review board) team.
  • Recommend suggestions to operations for how we can minimize overall scrap, rework, and product defects.
  • Review, process, and manage product nonconformities that are identified through the Bauer Red Tag NC system.
  • Review submitted red tag nonconformities to assess the defects and determine their root cause(s).
  • Coordinate with various departments to create viable solutions based on RMA results that will reduce product and process defects.
  • Lead and conduct training for training personnel.
  • Create metrics and establish analytical trends based on the submitted red tag nonconformities, RMAs, and QCII inspections. These trends will be presented and reviewed throughout the organization and will result in initiating corrective actions.
  • Conduct quality investigations that determine product and process nonconformity root causes.
  • Implement corrective actions to address identified root causes based on quality investigations.
  • Conduct quality internal rework & repairs for various red tag nonconforming materials and RMAs.
  • Troubleshoot material and product defects. This will include repairing and reworking materials and products for conformity acceptance.
  • Assists purchasing with contacting vendors to report deficiencies and arrange for the return of the failed items for rework or replacement using the vendors RMA/Warranty system.
  • Reviews problems with parts/equipment purchased for use in the units built by BCI.
  • Inspection of both products received and shipped to meet BCI Quality requirements.
  • Review customer complaints specific to product nonconformities. Initiating customer follow-ups can occur as part of the corrective action process.
  • Reviews technical problems and procedures of departments and recommends solutions to problems or changes in procedures.
  • Suggests and debates alternative methods and procedures in solving problems and meeting changing market opportunities.
  • Audit Bill of Material to ensure all issued parts with the job are conforming to the quality requirements. If materials are not qualified, network with warehouse, engineering, and production coordinators to have the required parts delivered to the staged nonconforming area.
  • Use M2M to research job order information.
  • Use Vault to access and interpret assembly and schematic drawings.
  • Use various Quality Assurance techniques and tools to address nonconformities.
  • Coordinate reviews with customer support on identified defects from returned materials.
  • Create quality technical reports on returned materials. These reports can be shared with customer support and presumably the customer to assist with determining the validity of customer warranties.
  • Regular and reliable attendance.
  • Maintain the quality incoming inspection log.
  • Various overlapping responsibilities with the quality inspector position to include:
    • Conducting production, QA, fabrication, and shipping inspections.
    • Create inspection & test plans for various raw materials and finished products.
    • Understand when and how to utilize the BOMAF and MPL processes.
    • Measure, drill, cut, and wire electrical assemblies.
    • Assemble harnesses and switches as needed for job orders.
    • Responsible for the retention and maintenance of UL records.
    • Assist with performing supplier quality audits.
    • Conducts internal audits.
    • Analyze assembly and schematic drawings to determine any need for revisions and refer to the engineering department.

ESSENTIAL SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
  • Demonstrate the ability of attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
  • High School or technical school diploma or equivalent
  • A minimum of six (6) months to one year of relevant experience
  • Familiarity with the ISO9001 standard.
  • electrical and mechanical systems.
  • Experience in reading engineering and electrical schematics.
  • Ability to interpret wiring/tubing/structural drawings/specifications.
  • Proficiency in MS Outlook and Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Must be self-motivated and able to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Must be detail-oriented and able to multi-task and prioritize demands.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills required.
  • Proficient in reading and interpreting blueprints and schematics for placement of parts.
  • Proficient in understanding the core principles of how to navigate safely within a manufacturing environment. (i.e. – Personal protective equipment, equipment line of sight)
  • Able to identify and safely operate standard hand, power and air tools.
  • Ability to adapt and thrive in a constantly changing environment.

VALUED BUT NOT REQUIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
  • Possess an understanding of electrical wiring and harnessing.
  • Associate degree in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Engineering Technology, Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, or another related technical field.
  • Experience in LEAN Manufacturing & 6S concepts.
  • Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems experience a plus.
  • Autodesk Inventor experience.

The noise levels in some manufacturing facilities frequently may exceed the normal dBA. The employee is required to wear all necessary personal protective equipment (safety shoes, safety glasses, hearing protection, masks, etc.) while working or when walking through the plant.

Normal working schedule: Monday through Thursday, 6am to 4:30pm EST; occasional overtime and weekend hours required at time.
