JOB SUMMARY

To provide primary health care and perform selective medical services under the direction of practice physicians.

Patient Care: Interviews and advises patients regarding health and illness prevention.

  • Synthesizes data to determine preliminary diagnosis and therapeutic plan utilizing principles of prevention.
  • Recommends community resources to meet patient and family needs.

Quality: Collaborates with other departments or disciplines to achieve desired quality outcomes.

  • Monitors quality of core processes in department.
  • Applies the principles of safety and infection control to ensure the safety of all patients.

Communication: Demonstrates superior interpersonal and communication skills.

  • Works within a team to achieve patient and team goals.
  • Shares and initiates regular and professional communication with co-workers.
  • Participates in regular staff meetings.
  • Identifies opportunities to improve processes based on feedback from staff and customers.

Medical Knowledge: Provides primary health care and performs selective medical services under the direction of practice physicians.

  • Obtains complete history and physical data on patients.
  • Reviews patient records.
  • Interprets and integrates data to determine appropriate diagnostic and therapeutic procedures needed.
  • Performs a complete physical exam and records findings.
  • Establishes presumptive diagnosis.
  • Orders appropriate laboratory and diagnostic procedures.
  • Performs independent evaluations and treatment procedures in emergency situations.
  • Provides monitoring and continuity of care between physician visits.

The incumbent may be asked to perform additional duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Graduate Degree Required - Master's degree in NP program or post Master's NP program. As of January 1, 2005, all new NP graduates must have a Master's Degree. National certification required after January 1, 2000. Continuing education is mandatory for recertification and for continuing regulatory recognition to practice in the state.

Experience: 1 - 3 years of experience working in a physician practice setting preferred. Refer to the Life Support Training Policy for additional details.

Licensure: Current NP license in applicable state, registry required with state medical board, current DEA registry required.

Additional Skills/Requirements Required : Ability to successfully complete generic and department-specific skills validation and competency testing. Ability to work with management team and physicians; demonstrated customer service skills, interpersonal skills, and communication skills.
