Job Description Summary
Provides advice to the Company, Management & Associates, on matters relating to occupational health to assist the organisation in meeting its legal requirements and implementing safe and healthy working practices.
- Play a key role in ensuring the health and well-being of the working population by preventing work-related ill health and providing specialist rehabilitation advice.
Job Description
- Manage pre-employment medicals in conjunction with the Company Medical Officer
- Supports the associate absence management programme
- Management of medical referrals - giving specific fitness for work advice whilst ensuring close working relations with HR.
- Develop a proactive absence management programme to manage associates’ recovery and return to work in a supportive and timely manner.
- Liaise with associates to arrange medical appointments and follow up recovery programmes with associates.
- Support Company Doctor while onsite on Wednesdays
- Provide weekly absence update report to managers and HR.
- Recommend appropriate adjustments in the workplace to help people stay in work/get people back to work.
- Occupational health support provided where a workplace accident occurs:
- Provide case management of injuries
- Ensure a full range of Occupational Health Associate Services
- Advise on fitness for work, workplace safety, the prevention of occupational injuries and disease.
- Conducts regular health surveillance reviews to determine possible health hazards to associates.
- Promote education of workforce in matters of general and personal hygiene, Health & Wellbeing programmes such as healthy eating programmes.
- Ensure a suitable system is in place to routinely schedule associates for medical check-ups. In conjunction with the C.M.O. carry out health screening of associates i.e. audiometry, ECGs, lung function checks and vision screening.
- Provide advice on such matters as Industrial Hygiene, medical aspects of associate services including canteen and cloakrooms/washroom and workstation layout.
- Maintain the associate Occupational Health Department and first aid services. Ensure first aid supplies and kits are regularly checked and maintained. Co-ordinate activities of first aiders and carry out first aid training on a periodic basis.
- Carry out training of associates on such topics as manual handling, and ergonomic aspects in relation to V.D.U. operation.
- Health & Safety
- Work closely with the H&S team and support H&S initiatives and goals as requested
- Active involvement in behavioural based safety conversations with particular focus on the 3 key accident areas (cannula, manual handling, slips/trips/falls).
- Monitors Occupational Health developments in order to keep the organisation up to date.
- Maintain appropriate Occupational Health records in line with data protection legislation.
Experience
- 3 + years’ experience in an Occupational Health Advisor role, preferably in a manufacturing environment
- Occupational Health Nursing or A&E experience an advantage
- Occupational First Aid Instructor /Examiner Qualification
