Patient Services Specialist (Pediatrics)

Position Description

This position is responsible for assuring smooth operation of the clinic patient flow. Employees serve as the primary contacts for patients and are responsible for scheduling appointments, preparing necessary paperwork before the patient visits, receiving patients, and maintaining records. In addition, this position is responsible for processing charges for clinic services, filing insurance claims, responding to requests for information from patients and insurance companies and maintaining related information for the department. Employees may have cash handling responsibilities.

Major/Essential Functions

Maintains familiarity and compliance with institution policies and procedures as they pertain to patient registration and eligibility Cross training in all clinic Pods
Verifies and updates Medicaid/Medicare/Insurance information through TMHP and insurance websites, for eligibility and benefits while maintaining patients files accurately
Pre-Certification and/or authorization for all procedures and office visits. Serve a liaison to third party payers to provide information on pending services in order to avoid denials
Answers incoming requests from patients, and staff regarding eligibility and covered benefits
Collects patient payments for services rendered prior to patient being seen. Generates reconciliation report and turns in report and monies to Sr. PSS at end of work shift

Required Qualifications

A High School diploma or GED
1 year Customer Service, office, or related experience
Additional education may substitute for the experience requirement

Preferred Qualifications

Electronic Medical Records and Centricity knowledge; Phreesia; RMS/Health Plan Web Portals
Bilingual (English/Spanish)
Knowledge of Insurance Health Plans and Network Provider enrollment
