What You Will Do
As a member of CALS Human Resources, you will provide payroll support regarding the interpretation and implementation of federal and state labor laws and Cornell University policies/contracts. You also serve as the leave management coordinator and process temporary employment transactions. Additional duties include:
- Providing day-to-day consultation to CALS employees regarding available medical leaves.
- Facilitating communications with employees, ensuring they receive the correct leave policy and informational materials.
- Ensuring the accuracy and efficiency of the temporary employee hiring process, including the completion of all required documentation.
- Collaborating with Human Resources Representatives regarding extending or terminating appointments for temporary employees.
- Addressing timecard critical errors and warnings, notifying employees/managers as appropriate.
- Making certain that timecards are completed timely and accurately.
What We Need
We are looking for a talented individual that excels at building and maintaining effective relationships with diverse stakeholders. We need someone who can thrive in a team and service-oriented environment. Additionally, we need someone who has the following:
- Associate’s Degree in business or management and 2+ years of HR or payroll experience, or the equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Solid comprehension of local, state, and federal HR laws.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Experience in handling confidential information with utmost discretion and integrity.
- Demonstrated record of successfully providing exceptional customer service.
- Proven experience in communicating effectively, both written and oral.
- Experience that demonstrates creativity, reasoning, and solution-finding techniques.
- Knowledge of how to balance conflicting priorities, make informed choices, and use sound judgment in completing urgent tasks.
- Must be able to work independently while assisting the efforts of an overall team while fostering a respectful work environment.
- Excellent organizational experience.
- Aptitude to identify opportunities for process improvements and then implement them.
- Must be flexible and receptive to new ideas and approaches.
- Experience in and/or demonstrated commitment to supporting diversity, equity, access, inclusion, and well-being.
- Ability to cultivate and develop inclusive and equitable working relationships with students, faculty, staff, and community members.

- Ability to effectively report on various HR software applications and databases.
- Aptitude to learn Cornell University policies and human resource systems, including Workday.
- Ability to maintain New York State Notary Public License.
- Experience in developing effective working relationships with faculty, staff, and students.
This position is full-time (39 hours/week) and will be located in Ithaca, New York. There is an opportunity to work a hybrid schedule. An on-site presence in Ithaca is required to meet department needs.
