Perry World House is a center for interdisciplinary scholarly inquiry, research, international exchange, policy engagement, and public outreach on pressing global issues. Perry World House facilitates critical conversations about global policy challenges and fosters interdisciplinary research on these topics. It organizes workshops and colloquia, welcomes distinguished visitors, and produces content for global audiences and policy leaders so that the knowledge developed at Penn can make an impact around the world.

Perry World House’s mission is to bring the academic knowledge of the University of Pennsylvania to bear on some of the world’s most pressing global policy challenges, and to foster international policy engagement within and beyond the Penn community.

Perry World House leverages the extraordinary range of expertise found across Penn’s 12 schools and dozens of research centers, connecting Penn with policymakers, practitioners, and researchers from around the world to develop and advance innovative policy proposals.

The PWH Programs Fellow position provides applicants with up to a two-year-long opportunity to support the intellectual and programmatic dimensions of Perry World House, Penn's hub for international policy research and global engagement. Reporting to the Director of Programs, the Programs Fellow plays a critical role by providing research and programmatic support to PWH’s two primary research themes: 1) Global Shifts: Urbanization, Migration, and Climate Change and 2) the Future of the Global Order: Power, Technology, and Governance and its related subthemes and future program themes to be determined, including an emerging program related to human rights. In addition, the Programs Fellow will provide general administrative office and programmatic support to Perry World House to carry out its public programming, as needed.
Job Description
Applicants who have demonstrated a strong commitment to global affairs are invited to apply for a PWH Programs Fellow position. The position provides applicants with up to a two-year-long opportunity to conduct research, engage on global public policy issues, and support the intellectual and programmatic dimensions of Perry World House. The PWH Programs Fellow will be expected to play a critical role at Perry World House. This will include research and related support for PWH’s two primary research themes: 1) Global Shifts: Urbanization, Migration, and Climate Change, which focuses on trends in migration, urbanization, and what cities can do to mitigate the impacts of climate change and lead efforts for a more sustainable future and 2) the Future of the Global Order: Power, Technology, and Governance, which examines the implications of changing global power dynamics, impacts of new technologies, and contributions of governance institutions for the future of international cooperation. It also includes a sub-thematic focus on how emerging technologies are shaping global politics. In addition, the position will provide general administrative office and programmatic support to Perry World House to carry out its public programming, as needed.
Job Responsibilities
  • Conduct in-depth research and analysis in support of PWH thematic work. Draft background papers, pre-reports, conference reports, agendas, other materials for convenings; summarize research findings; edit, proof, and provide feedback on outputs, including white papers, policy briefs, memos, conference reports, backgrounders, etc.
  • Assist in planning and maximizing Visiting Fellows and Visiting Scholars campus engagement, including through agenda preparation, event planning, and identification of campus opportunities with various stakeholders, including faculty, students, colleague centers, and Penn alum.
  • Prepare materials for convenings – agendas, biography packets, reading materials, etc.
  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Qualifications
A Bachelor's degree and 1 to 2 years of experience or equivalent combination of education and experience is required. This is a two-year term position.

Candidate should have a strong interest in global affairs as demonstrated through course of study and/or work experience, including as demonstrated through research, internships, and/or travel abroad experience. Candidate should be extremely well organized, entrepreneurial, and enjoy working in a fast-paced, deadline driven environment. Candidate should have excellent research, writing, proofreading, and editing skills, as well as strong oral presentation, organizational, and overall communications skills. The candidate should work well with others and be self-motivated. Knowledge of Penn preferred. The candidate should also have a strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office with expertise in Excel, PowerPoint and Word.

Targeted Pay Range
$37,220- $55,000 annually. Salary offers are made based on the candidate’s qualifications, experience, skills, and education as they directly relate to the requirements of the position, as well as internal and market factors and grade profile.
