What you will be doing

This position is 100% on-site at Reading Hospital, located in West Reading, Pennsylvania. Typical work hours are M-F between 8 AM and 5 PM.
AmerisourceBergen has managed and staffed the Reading Hospital Ambulatory Pharmacy inside of the 700 bed Reading Hospital since 2017. In 2023 a second community pharmacy will be opened to serve the Doctors Office Building located on campus.
We foster a culture where career development and training play a key role as our staff gain experience in many aspects of ambulatory and specialty pharmacy. We currently employ pharmacists in both clinical and ambulatory settings with a support staff of technicians in various roles. We are excited to welcome new team members to continue to grow our team and kickstart new careers.
We started with 2 pharmacists and 4 technicians and have since expanded into a much larger operation with services such as:
- meds-to-beds
- employee prescriptions
- pharmacist navigators embedded in clinics
- Specialty Pharmacy
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Oversees and actively participates in the pharmacy’s Meds-to-Beds program
- Assists manager or Pharmacist with schedules, work assignments, facilitate meetings, and conducts training
- Makes business related recommendations to pharmacy management
- Communicates any business-related concerns such as operations, procedures, or staffing to management.
- Complies with regulatory and organizational policies and procedures,
- Serves as primary Ambulatory Pharmacy resource to facilitate access and resolve all required discharge medication related issues. Including but not limited to; formulary/coverage issues, copay issues, patient assistance program eligibility, and other indigent programs.
- Collaborates with internal team members to gather appropriate paperwork, prescription billing information, &/or prescriptions.
- Answers inbound telephone calls and triages calls to appropriate staff
- Responsible for creating a patient profile in the pharmacy information system and enters all necessary prescription plan information in the patient profile for processing and adjudicating patient’s prescriptions.
- Participates in program marketing and promotional campaigns.
- Assists in establishing and training policies and procedures specific to the Concierge Services Program including; indigent drug program, Patient Assistance Programs, and Pharmacy exception processes.
- Provides follow-up to patients and family for pharmaceutical needs and/or additional eligibility information to ensure on-going medication access.
- Collaborates with internal team members, insurance companies, drug manufacturers, and prescription benefit administrators to coordinate drug coverage or resolve denials.
- Assembles data and prepares concierge program reports.
- Performs other duties as assigned
What your background should look like
EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Requires a minimum of three (3) years of experience in a community-based retail or hospital outpatient pharmacy or equivalent training and experience. Additional experience in any hospital setting or “lead” Technician experience is a plus. Associate’s Degree program preferred. Pharmacy Technician certified with a state or national technical certification organization preferred (may be required in some states).
- Demonstrated proficiency and process knowledge of outpatient prescription program payer/PBM billing, issue resolution, and payment processes—including Prior Authorization and Claim Exception Facilitation.
- Understanding and process knowledge of medication billing systems in an ambulatory pharmacy setting Demonstrated computer literacy-including Pharmacy Operating System experience and Word/Excel capabilities. Prior POS and cash register experience required, Pharmacy POS/cash register experience desired
- Direct experience and knowledge of Patient Assistance Programs and/or indigent drug programs is highly desired.

- Strong organizational skills; attention to detail
- Good analytical skills
