Polson High School Library


JOB DESCRIPTION:


Library Administration

  • Long range planning and program development
  • Management of library budget
  • Supervision of library paraprofessional
  • Placing of orders for books, electronic resources, supplies, print subscriptions, computers, equipment, furniture
  • Maintenance of all computer workstations and online catalog computers
  • Development of procedures and guidelines for library operation including PHS Library Procedure Manual
  • Scheduling of class use
  • Entry of all library use and classes on Library Google Calendar
  • Supervision of library yearly tasks, opening and closing, etc.
  • Inventory of books, AV equipment and furnishings
  • Public relations planning ex. library events, activities, parent outreach, bulletin boards
  • Attendance of professional development opportunities, conferences
  • Maintenance of library facility
  • Communication and cooperation with local and regional libraries
  • Coordination of facility for faculty meetings, special meetings, events
  • Preparation of monthly report and usage statistics to principal
  • Periodic surveys of staff and students about library services, facilities and collection
  • Application and management of Grant projects ex. READ posters

Teaching

  • Freshmen Library Skills including Digital Citizenship
  • Sophomore Library Skills including Digital Citizenship
  • Curriculum development
  • Instructional consultant for staff
  • One on one teaching with students
  • Reference service for students and staff
  • Supervision of classes, study support and other students on passes
  • Coordination with local library staffs to promote use of available community resources and Summer Reading Program
  • Provide book talks and reading promotion to classes
  • Readers Club planning and preparation for lunch meetings
  • Revise and update guidelines for research and citation formats

Electronic Resource Management

  • Review and purchase/renewal of electronic databases and resources, including e-magazines and e-newspapers
  • Instructions of students and staff in use of electronic resources
  • Upgrades and maintenance of Follett Library Manager circulation software and computer hardware
  • Additions/upgrades/maintenance of items on PHS Student Webpage and PHS Library Blog
  • Uploading AV items to Digital Media Server

Technology Coordination and Maintenance

  • 1:1 Student Chromebook Device Program
  • Maintenance and storage of devices

Collection Development

  • Maintenance of print collection and Follett Destiny Online Catalog
  • Ordering fiction and non fiction books through various selection tools to meet student and staff needs for research and recreational reading
  • Cataloging and processing new titles
  • Communication with teachers on class use of the library and research needs for projects and assignments
  • Filling student and staff requests for titles
  • Creation and maintenance of Classics/Required Reading List, staff reading, other lists and bibliographies
  • Utilize Follett Titlewave software to analyze print collection to identify strengths and weaknesses
  • Maintain and develop the professional collection for staff use

Textbook Management

  • Maintenance of Destiny Textbook Manager software and hardware
  • Processing of textbooks and classroom novel sets for circulation
  • Training and assisting English Department Staff with checkout and check in of textbooks
  • Completion of Textbook Inventory

Testing Coordinator

  • Management of assessment data and student enrollment
  • Provide and assist staff with student progress monitoring and test records on request
  • Preparation of workstations for testing including ISIP, STAR Math, SBAC and ACT Aspire
  • Work with tech staff to load software, prepare icons and student logins
  • Work with guidance and teachers to reserve library and schedule classes
  • Proctor HOSA Health Occupations tests for students

Audio Visual

  • Maintenance of audio visual equipment
  • Ordering of new and replacement equipment
  • Scheduling use of In Focus, DVD players, Video Cameras, etc.
  • Instruction of staff and students
  • Problem solving and troubleshooting AV mishaps

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works inside. The employee must be able to meet deadlines with severe time constraints. The employee frequently will work irregular or extended hours while performing the duties of this job.
