Job Title: Pool Lifeguard
Location: Brothers of Charity, Bawnmore Pool.
Reporting To: Department Supervisor
Remuneration:
All new entrants to the public sector will commence on the first point of the above salary scale
Qualifications
Particulars of the position
Duties & Responsibilities
a) Maintain a current recognised lifeguard qualification.
B) Operate at all times according to the details and instructions contained in the Pools
NOP and EAP
b) Maintain concentrated observation of the pool and the pool users in order to anticipate problems and to identify an emergency quickly.
c) Carry out rescues and initiate any other emergency action when necessary.
d) Give immediate first aid in the event of injury to a pool user or another emergency.
l) ) Perform CPR and use AED if required
e) Communicate with bathers and encourage responsible behaviour by the swimmers, polite and firm reminders should be given to swimmers who are in breach of the rules
f) Ensure all emergency first aid equipment and pool side emergency equipment is present and working correctly, report any damages.
g) Ensure changing room doors are kept locked at all times when pool is not in use.
h) Maintain safe, clean and hygienic conditions on the pool sides
i) Carry out required pool water tests according to the procedure in the Plant Operations Manual.
j) Deal with enquiries, providing it doesn’t jeopardise swimmer safety
k) Carry out cleaning duties when necessary
l) Arrive five minutes before the start of their shift and be ready to start on time
m) Be mindful of health and safety at all times
n) Commit to regular professional training which must be recorded and logged.
o) Complete all mandatory training required by the organisation, and renew when necessary
p) Comply with all Covid guidelines, and implement the adherence of same within the facility

Qualifications
- Pool Lifeguard Level 2 Award of the Irish Water Safety Association or an equivalent award from a nationally recognised water safety association.
- Basic Life Support Level 3 of the Irish Water Safety or an equivalent award from a nationally recognised water safety association.
- Pool Plant Operators Certificate an advantage but not essential.
- Occupational First Aid would also be an advantage but is not essential.
- Previous experience of working as a lifeguard in a deep-water pool.
- Good working knowledge of Safety Procedures relating to pool supervision in a busy public pool.
- Good working knowledge of normal operating procedures and emergency operating procedures for a sports complex.
- Experience of working with people who have an intellectual disability would be an advantage but not essential.
- Commitment to customer care as well as the implementation of Health, Safety & Welfare at Work Act essential.
- Proven ability to work independently as well as being part of a team.
Particulars of the position
- The hours of work for this position are for varied hours covering day, evening and weekend shifts while residents and members of the public are using the pool facilities in Bawnmore.
- The person appointed will be required to carry out all of their duties in Bawnmore Pool.
