Summary:

My lab at the Sanford Burnham Prebys Medical Discovery Institute in La Jolla has an immediate opening for a post PhD scientist with 2-5 years of experience in mass spectrometry including GC-MS and/or LC-MS/MS and a suite of glycomic, proteomic and glycoproteomic analyses. Proficiency in multiple analytical programs is essential to integrate with our in-house proteomics core facility. Knowledge and hands-on experience in cellular and metabolic aspects of glycobiology are required to integrate into several projects. Experience in confocal microscopy, mammalian cell culture and high throughput 384-well plate format screening is important. Multiple first author publications, fluent oral and written English, and current US residence are required.

Our major project uses 13C-labeled monosaccharides to analyze the metabolic origin of fucose in multiple glycoproteins. Activated fucose derived from the de novo, salvage and exogenous pathways exist in multiple, separate metabolic pools which are selectively used to glycosylate different proteins. These findings reveal a previously unimagined complexity of cellular structure and organization required to generate, select, and incorporate precursors from these different pools. Our long-term goal is to understand the mechanisms that generate this selectivity. [PMID: 36053214, 36423686]

Other glycosylation projects in the lab involve glycan analysis of patient fibroblasts, their differentiated iPSC, and analysis of new Congenital Disorders of Glycosylation (CDG). Our lab has a long history of CDG discovery, patient interactions, and approaches to CDG therapy.

Compensation:

The expected hiring range for this position is $64,480.00 to $98,571.82 commensurate with experience.
