Position: Bright Beginnings Preschool Assistant Teacher

Position Description: The Assistant Teacher is a warm, friendly individual who relates well to children and adults. The Assistant Teacher is committed to Bright Beginnings Preschool’s early education mission and goals. The Assistant Teacher is responsible for assisting the Lead Teacher with general supervision and management of the class.

Position Status:

● Full-Time Hourly – work 35-40 hours per week, receive a designated hourly rate, paid bi-weekly

● Part-Time Hourly – work less than 35 hours per week, receive a designated hourly rate, paid bi-weekly

Supervision: Reports to the Bright Beginnings Preschool Director

Qualifications and Aptitudes:

● Requirements:

o FBI background check

o Be free of active tuberculosis – have a current record of tuberculosis examination

o Notarized Licensing Affidavit for Applicants for Employment form

o Orientation to the child-care center

o Be at least 18 years of age

o High school diploma or high school equivalent

o Complete 24 hours of pre-service training

o An active member of a Christian or Evangelical church

o Know and comply with the Minimum Standards for child-care centers

o Complete 24 clock hours of annual training

o Agree to the Policies and Procedures Manual of Bright Beginnings Preschool

o Complete MinistrySafe training

Physical Requirements:

o Lift up to 40 lbs.

o Repetitive bending, stretching, and stooping

o Climb up and down stairs

o Have mobility required to ensure the safety of the children

o Work with children on the floor

o Work outdoors in any variety of weather

o Assist with all cleaning and closing procedures and maintenance to ensure a healthy

environment.

o Fully capable to have visual or hearing capabilities consistent with Licensing.

Job Responsibilities and Duties:

● Assist in implementing the daily program under the direction of the Lead Teacher

● Assist in planning and preparing the learning environment, setting up interest centers, and

preparing needed materials and supplies.

● Supervise the classroom when the Lead Teacher is out of the room for a brief period of time (restroom break, make copies, gather supplies, etc.)

● General housekeeping duties - see Cleaning Chart .

● Assist the Lead Teacher in other ways as requested

● Assist the Lead Teacher with implementation of appropriate early childhood education

experiences

● Help the Lead Teacher to supervise and promote activities designed to enhance the healthy

emotional, social, intellectual, and physical development of children enrolled at the preschool

● Help to maintain a neat and organized classroom

● Help children establish good habits of personal hygiene, change diapers, and assist with toilet training

● Report supplies needed to Preschool Director

● Attend mandatory staff meetings/trainings

● Perform related duties as assigned

● Demonstrate competency, good judgment, and self-control, both in speech and actions in the presence of children and when performing assigned responsibilities

● Relate to children and co-workers with courtesy, respect, acceptance, and patience

● Recognize and respect the uniqueness and potential of all children, their families, and their

cultures

● Ensure that no child is abused, neglected, or exploited while in the care of the center

● Report suspected abuse, neglect, and exploitation to DFPS as specified in the Texas Family Code

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $10.50 - $11.50 per hour
