Full Time School Nurse - Maine School Solutions

(Serving Monmouth, Belgrade and Auburn)

Maine School Solutions owns and operates three day treatment programs in the state of Maine. Each school is licensed by the Maine Department of Education as special purpose private schools. At Maine School Solutions, we provide individualized therapeutic support and educational services to students identified in special education with behavioral, social, and emotional needs that have not been successful in public school in grades K – 12 and need a more structured and supported environment with specially designed instruction. All students have an assigned school social worker and are supported by Behavioral Health Professionals (BHP), Special Education Teachers, Occupational Therapists, and Speech Therapists.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand, walk, bend, climb stairs, and move throughout the campus; communicate verbally and electronically; use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools or controls; and reach with hands and arms.

Occasionally required to stoop, kneel or crouch. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to lift or exert force up to 10 pounds. May be exposed to bacteria or communicable disease.

Requirements:

  • A BSN Degree
  • A current Maine RN licensure
  • Current BLS CPR and AED Certification
  • Minimum of one-year experience, which includes adolescent medicine/growth and development.
  • Ability to train CRMA’s Preferred

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Maintains the schools’ nurse offices to deliver comprehensive school health services according to School Nursing Standards of Practice, the Maine State Nurse Practice Act, State and Federal Guidelines and departmental procedures and protocols.
  • Provide training to school personnel as needed to assist in passing medications and managing health concerns of students when needed.
  • Assumes responsibility for appropriate assessment, planning, intervention, evaluation, management, referral and collaboration activities for students.
  • Maintain a clean, safe and welcoming nurse’s office environment.
  • Develops and trains need to know school staff on Emergency Action Plans for students with potentially life-threatening conditions.
  • Provides episodic and emergency health care to ill or injured students, staff, and visitors.
  • Duties may include direct assessment and/or treatment of students who have been exposed to or contracted COVID19.
  • Collaborates and communicates with other staff members on a need to know basis regarding student health needs or conditions.
  • Documents health findings and relevant health data and maintains student health records in compliance with HIPAA.
  • Communicates with students and parents/guardians on health issues and needs in a timely and culturally sensitive exchange.
  • Demonstrates professional conduct and effective written, verbal, and nonverbal communication.
  • Remains calm in emergency situations.
  • Seeks professional development opportunities relative to school health.
  • Serves as a member of the school emergency and disaster preparedness and response team.
  • Maintains communicable disease prevention and control measures and communicable disease surveillance and reporting.
  • Promotes a safe and healthy school environment and climate of school connectedness.
  • This position will initially require travel to the Belgrade, Monmouth, and Auburn school locations.
