A DAY IN THE LIFE OF A PRODUCE ASSISTANT MANAGER

A Produce Assistant Manager is reasonable for assisting the Produce Manager in overseeing the entire Produce Department. You will assist the Produce Buyer with placing the day-to-day orders with established suppliers within the guidelines set forth by the Produce Manager. You will work alongside the Produce Manager to building relationships with suppliers and wholesalers to secure high quality produce in alignment with department objectives for sales, margin, and customer service. This role requires careful attention to market conditions and expectations within our network of suppliers. The Produce Assistant Manager leads the receiving team as produce deliveries arrive and stock out produce according to the set procedures within the department. You will ensure displays are replenished, rotated, and culled several times daily, while also spending time trimming, washing, and bundling produce as needed. Additionally, you will assist the Produce Manager to coach, mentor, and address staff performance issues in a timely manner, while also helping to train department staff on regular duties, safety, customer service, efficiency and maintain training checklists with clearly stated expectations and standards.

QUALIFICATIONS

• Past employee supervising experience.
• Past purchasing experience.
• Ability to stand for long periods of time and to lift up to 55 lbs.
• Ability to bend, stoop, squat, kneel, twist, reach, and climb ladders.
• Ability to reach above shoulder height occasionally.
