Nature and ScopeAir Products has a build, own, and operate business model, from developing product lines to full-scope EPC and Plant Operations. One of the key enablers to our business growth is data-centric engineering that focuses on data integrity and digitization to enhance the execution capabilities of Air Products mega projects. We aim to increase the Company's internal EPC execution efficiency by strengthening our project information management and handover capabilities.
The Project Automation Manager will improve the efficiency of EPC execution by implementing industry-proven tools and methods. This role will provide expertise in EPC system automation with proven knowledge and experience to retrieve, validate, and deliver data from engineering specifications and drawings. The role will coordinate between the project team and IT to ensure EPC systems operate and perform as encouraged and are supported per the demands of a global project execution team.
The Project Automation Manager will contribute to all phases of project execution and will be staffed as a full-time member of the project team. The candidate must have proven experience in data-driven engineering applications with in-depth knowledge of typical EPC systems, integrations, interfaces, and dependencies. This individual will work closely with Engineering, Product Lines, Information Technology/Management, Suppliers, Project Management, Procurement, Construction, Commissioning, Project Controls, and Operations.
Principal accountabilities
- Drives all EPC automation-related activities across the project lifecycle, beginning with the proposal phase.
- Works with the Regional Lifecycle Automation Manager to identify the desired level of system automation with alignment with project scope, scale, and split of work.
- Assess network and communications connectivity needs and the level of support required to support engineering workcenters, construction sites and fabrication yards.
- Coordinates with Project Execution, Engineering, Digital Technologies (IT), and CAD Systems teams to ensure systems and tools are appropriately sized, configured, and service-ready for projects.
- Works closely with other Project Automation Managers to coordinate the setup and support of engineering software tools locally and across global work centers in India, EMEA, the Americas, and Asia.
- Develops project automation plans and procedures with software requirements, configuration, setup, deployment scope, and project close-out and archiving activities, including Handover to Operations.
- Develops data and document requirements specifications and implements Air Products standard data model, including tools and templates.
- Develops data and document handover specification supporting incremental and full-scope delivery.
- Performs engineering data integrity audits to ensure compliance with Air Products data standards, approved conventions, and terminology.
- Keeps pace with industry trends and standard processes.
Critical Competencies
- Experience on very large-scale EPC, Oil and Gas, Industrial Gases, or Petrochemical projects (>500MM CapEx)
- Strong solid understanding of software applications used on large EPC projects, e.g., Hexagon SmartPlant tools, Smart Materials, Ecosys, and OpenText
- Knowledge of the information flow between the automation tools
- Detailed understanding of engineering data management and dependencies
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
- Excellent communication skills (written and verbal)
- Strong facilitative skills, including presenting to cross cultures and geographies
- Thrives in a fast-paced environment
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience
- A minimum of 10 years of relevant professional experience
- Strong experience in engineering systems, architecture, and work processes
- Knowledge of CFIHOS, and ISO standards relevant to information and data management
- Experience in large modularization concepts and design
- Knowledge of subcontract management, construction management, and commissioning systems
- Ability to critically evaluate information gathered from multiple sources and reconcile conflicts
- Can decompose high-level information into actionable details
