Job description
NOTE: This is a Hybrid role going into the office 3 days a week and any additional days on an as needed basis with remaining days working remotely at home therefore, must reside within driving distance of Columbus ,OH geographic location.
Supervise a group of project schedulers and/or cost analyst responsible for project controls deliverables throughout all phases of the projects. Provide project controls reviews, assessment, and resource utilization for active projects. Provide leadership, direction, training, coordination, and effective communication to support all project phases with a safe, efficient, economical, risk-balanced approach to achieve short and long range goals and to obtain maximum customer satisfaction. Develop relationships and effectively communicate with all stakeholders including internal customers, external customers, team members, and industry peers. Provide leadership for department employees by setting performance expectations, providing feedback and participating in the performance review process, balancing work loads, managing the department budget, coordinating process improvement efforts, and providing required reports to Project Management that demonstrate progress and project budget alignment.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS are listed below:
- Supervise project controls staff in the preparation of periodic project cost and/or schedule control reports including validating and reconciling actual and incurred costs and hours, analyzing progress to date and making recommendations as to forecasted cost and schedule projections while meeting critical deadlines.
- Responsible for establishing project controls processes for scheduling, cost management, and the development of metrics and reporting on program/project performance.
- Provide ongoing project controls training and facilitate best practice sharing opportunities across the organization.
- Facilitate the development of project/program schedules and budgets, forecast and variance analysis for all types of funding accounts.
- Facilitate the development of contractual project controls requirements to ensure all contract documents are aligned with project execution.
- Ensure the department is represented in kick-off meetings with contractors to ensure all requirements are reviewed and understood.
- Work directly with the departmental leadership team to provide support and expertise and resolve project conflicts and delays.
- Work collaboratively with leadership and corporate support departments to provide metrics and data analysis to support various continuous improvement initiatives. Supervise project controls functions to ensure data integrity and controls systems functionality.
- Conduct portfolio and subsequent program level reporting and analysis as needed and assigned, including reporting and presentations for senior leadership.
- Supervise the project close-out functions including closing CI's, Work Orders, schedules, and validating final project costs.
- Lead in the review and/or development of project controls standards and guidelines. Direct, guide, and champion the administration of AEP project management organizational standards and assist in the management of projects to those standards. Adhere to the guidance and standards put forth by the AEP Project Management Governance Committee.

Minimum Requirements
Education:
Education requirement is dependent upon experience as indicated below.
Qualified degrees must be in a related field from an accredited university or college and could include Accounting, Business, Construction Management, Engineering, Technology, Project Management, Mathematics, Operations Research, Applied Statistics, Economics, or Data Science.
High school diploma or GED with sixteen (16) years' qualified experience in one of the following AEP job families: Project Coordinator, Project Cost Analyst, Project Scheduler, Project Controls Specialist, Project Data Analyst, and/or Project Financial Controls Analyst.
Associates degree in applicable field with ten (10) years' qualified experience.
Bachelor's degree in applicable field with eight (8) years' qualified experience.
For nuclear facilities only: Educational requirement for advancement can be fulfilled by qualified experience in the Navy Nuclear Program in addition to the maximum years of experience as noted.
Experience:
Qualified experience includes the following:
- Cost and/or schedule management experience from project initiation through project closeout on projects of varying complexity, size, and duration.
- A demonstrated level of competency in project management and/or business acumen.
- Earned value analysis.
- Working knowledge in project management and/or corporate accounting reporting and forecasting tools.
License/Certifications:
Project Management Professional (PMP) and/or other project controls certifications preferred but not required.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS
- Travel requirements are expected up to 25% of the time.
- Proficiency with use of a computer and MS Office products including Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint.
- Safely and effectively perform light physical duties at various work sites including home and AEP locations in varying conditions.

- For nuclear sites only: Work performed at nuclear power sites may involve work in hazardous areas and possible radiation exposure within the limits prescribed by the NRC
