Property Evidence Technician (Part-Time, 19 Hours per week)

Hourly Rate: $20.01

Summary

Performs intermediate technical and responsible clerical work; responsible for securing and processing all evidence and found property; does related work as required.

Work is performed under the supervision of the Evidence Custodian.

Essential Job Functions:
  • Ensures evidence/property is accounted for through internal audits.
  • Operates two-way radio, telephone, recording devices, computer terminals, and other office equipment;
  • Receives and transmits messages by radio;
  • Forwards information to state agencies and special units;
  • Moves evidence, contraband and found property from secured lockers to evidence room;
  • Assigns appropriate identifying numbers to all items;
  • Records information manually and in computer files
  • Assigns purge dates to all items;
  • Stores items in appropriate locations in evidence room;
  • Weighs packages and ships evidence to various agencies;
  • May testify in court;
  • Notifies appropriate parties for the release of evidence or found property;
  • Periodically arranges for the destruction of contraband, release of funds to the school board and return of license plates to the DMV;
  • Schedules and supervises all aspects of public auction relative to purged property;
  • Responsible for verifying drug weights and documenting verification;
  • Performs related tasks as required;
  • Transfers items to and from the State Lab for testing;
Job Related Physical Activity Requirements: This position involves sedentary work requiring the employee to exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and less force frequently to move objects. Physical activity related to this position may include climbing, reaching, pushing, fingering, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, and repetitive motions. Sufficient visual acuity is required to prepare and analyze data and figures; do extensive reading and operate computer terminal. An employee in this position will not be substantially exposed to adverse environmental conditions but will be subject to noise and working in confined areas.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Ability to type accurately at a reasonable rate of speed; ability to operate standard office equipment and computers; ability to speak distinctively; ability to deal effectively with outside agencies and the public often under stressful conditions; ability to follow oral and written instructions; ability to lift heavy articles and to work under varying adverse environmental conditions; demonstrated honesty and integrity; good physical condition.

Education and Experience: Graduation from high school and some experience inventory and stock keeping; or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.

Special Requirements: Possession of a valid N.C. driver's license; possession of a N.C. DCI certification or the ability to obtain such within a six-month probationary period.
