PRIVATE CONSERVED 1,700 ACRE ISLAND off Woods Hole on Cape Cod --Looking for an experienced, hardworking, resourceful couple to manage an island farm with three summer rental houses. This is a lifestyle change, a homesteader's dream. It requires a careful balance between isolation and hospitality. In the summer months the rental houses are filled with vacationers and responsibilities are more focused on supporting the visitors. During the winter months the island is empty and responsibilities shift more to patrol, and maintenance. It is a full-time job for two people requiring a full-time presence in the summer months and a more flexible schedule in the winter months. Duties include maintenance of buildings and farm equipment, operation of the island boat, assistance to visitors, maintaining the island vegetable garden, island patrol, trail mowing and maintenance, management of livestock, and light record-keeping. The positions of Island Manager require a hardworking farmer's mentality and the ideal candidates must have a can-do attitude and be able to adjust strategies on the fly. Advanced ocean-based boating experience is a requirement. A valid drivers license and strong mechanical skills are also needed. The position includes on-island housing, all utilities, and two weeks' paid vacation. The salary listed above is to be split between the couple. On top of this, there is a yearly contribution towards health insurance and a pension plan.
