The JCC Ranch Camp is not just the Denver JCCs residential summer camp, its a premiere facility for lifecycle events, corporate retreats, and school groups when summer camp is not in session. Whether youre at Ranch Camp for an amazing summer camp experience as a camper or staff member, or you are coming for a few days for an event or retreat, we want this to be a home away from home offering a rustic, fun, and meaningful experience to everyone who comes through the front gate. Your experience as a staff member is just as important to us as our campers and guests experiences. That being said: Were here to serve others and make sure they are in the safest environment possible while offering a top-notch experience.

The Ranch Camp Outdoor Education Coordinator will focus on creating and executing experiential education-based programs and support other site rentals and retreats, as needed. This individual will coordinate with school groups to host retreats at our campus, as well as work with outside vendors to host training programs and corporate retreats throughout the year. We are seeking someone who has a passion for developing and facilitating outdoor education-style programming and curriculum for a variety of audiences and all ages. This is a part-time position to start that we hope to grow into a full-time role if business revenue is in place to support position expansion.

Responsibilities

  • Outreach, Communication & Marketing
    • Market outdoor education program to local schools, youth programs, and corporate groups
    • Meet with potential clientele and run in-person experiential programs to attract participation
    • Work with Operations Coordinator to build out program packages for year-round retreats and school groups
    • Lead and participate in thematically relevant programming for other youth-serving departments, as requested
  • Program Development
    • Create curriculum and activity plans tailored to each group retreat, as requested
    • Responsible for gear and supply inventory and ensuring safety and performance are being kept at all times
    • Responsible for facilitation of programming for education-based retreats
    • Partner with Camp Director to coordinate outdoor education fundraising efforts with JCC Development team, as needed
  • Hiring & Supervision
    • Assist in the hiring of per-diem outdoor educators to for year-round retreats
    • Train rental associates to fulfill the education-based rentals
  • Other duties as assigned

Basic Qualifications

  • Two years experience in outdoor education, wilderness therapy, professional guiding, or related fields
  • Two years experience working directly with large groups of youth and adults
  • Demonstrated experience facilitating education-based programs to large groups of youth and adults
  • Passion for creating inclusive and supportive environments for youth and adults
  • Passion for working with individuals with identified needs and diverse backgrounds
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (written and verbal)
  • Ability to make strategic and empathetic decisions based on organization's values and risk mitigation
  • Adept to expert familiarity with Microsoft Office suite or similar software
  • Desire to foster growth in own program


Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree or higher in outdoor education, recreation, wilderness therapy, or related field
  • Prior experience in outdoor education center management
  • Wilderness First Aid Instructor Certified, or related certification

Physical Demands and Working Environment:

The position requires the candidate to remain in a sitting position for prolonged hours in an office environment. While performing duties, the candidate is occasionally required to stand, walk use hands to handle or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms, talk and hear. Candidate must occasionally lift and or/move up to fifty (50) pounds. Working conditions may include being in an open (shared) cubicle or workspace. During active months, this program shifts to an outdoor role that includes walking up to five miles per day, hiking with a backpack of up to seventy pounds, and speaking loudly to large groups for extended periods of time. There may also be singing.
