FutureNeuro is a Science Foundation Ireland (SFI) Research Centre focused on developing new technologies and solutions for the treatment, diagnosis and monitoring of chronic and rare neurological diseases. Based at RCSI, FutureNeuro is a collaborative research partnership operating between academic partners at Trinity College Dublin, Dublin City University, NUI Galway, University College Dublin, University College Cork and Waterford Institute of technology, clinicians and industry. The research activities of the Centre span molecular and cell biology, preclinical models, pharmacology, imaging, behaviour and clinical studies.
The FutureNeuro Research Assistant will assist with animal welfare and maintenance requirements of Professor David Henshall’s research group and liaise with relevant staff to support the management of shared animal facilities.
Assisting with FutureNeuro animal-based activities, specifically: Genetically-altered mouse colony management and maintenance checks, minor non-surgical research procedures, cage cleaning, and genotyping.
Specific Duties
  • Carrying out animal work in compliance with HPRA, EPA and RCSI Ethics policies and regulations.
  • Assisting in the coordination of security and maintenance arrangements for the animal research facilities.
  • Supporting carrying out necessary risk assessments.
  • Liaising with relevant personnel (MRTF, BRF, Physiology Dept).
  • At time will be required to work flexible hours in line with research needs.
Qualifications
  • A BSc or MSc qualification in a relevant discipline
