Research Technician III (Yuma, AZ)
Job description
The Wright lab at the Yuma Agriculture Center, School of Plant Sciences is seeking a Research Technician who have experience and expertise working with diverse students, colleagues, and constituents. The successful applicant will be involved in research and extension objectives involving citrus, date palms and other tree fruit crops as needed. The specific tasks will involve determination of yield, interior and exterior fruit quality, water use, application of fertilizers, growth regulators and other products to tree fruits.

- Operate and maintains laboratory and experimental equipment.
- Design experiments and workplans with timelines, documentation in lab notebook, and data collection.
- Care for experimental plants.
- Implement statistical design on experimental plots.
- Apply treatments to experimental plants.
- Assist in judging the validity of results obtained from experimental procedures and recommend follow-up or ‘next steps’ for experimentation.
- Assist in developing or modifying written operating procedures and perform quality control checks.
- Enters and analyze data and write research progress reports including summarizing test results and assists in the preparation and writing of papers for publication; assists in writing reports and preparing/presenting project updates in lab meeting.
- Coordinates the acquisition of lab supplies
- Additional duties may be assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Knowledge of the concepts, principles, and techniques of the subject discipline.
- Knowledge of modern field and laboratory research methods as they relate to fruit trees and ability to follow protocols, data collection, and notebook/record keeping.
- Skill and experience analyzing and evaluating data.
- Ability to write reports and standard operating procedures
- Ability to make calculations pertaining to pesticide and plant growth regulator applications.
- Ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing.
- High school diploma or equivalent, or equivalent learning attained through experience required
- Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience required.
- Bachelor’s Degree in a plant-related discipline or equivalent, or equivalent learning attained through experience.
- At least partially fluent in Spanish, good working knowledge of English
