The Wilson School District is seeking a motivated School Nurse to provide services to our K-8 students for the 2023-2024 school year. 10-month school year position. Candidates that meet the qualifications are encouraged to apply.

JOB SUMMARY

As the School Nurse, you help ensure students have access to high quality education they need to learn in a safe and healthy environment by providing direction to the overall fiscal affairs of the district. You will also have the opportunity to provide and grow in a leadership role.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assess and evaluate the health and developmental status of the student in order to make a nursing diagnosis and establish priority for action.
- Interpret the health and developmental status of the student to him/her, his/her parents, and school personnel.
- Recommend to the Administrator, modifications in the educational program when indicated by the health developmental status of the student.
- Maintain a health record on all students enrolled.
- Scheduling of and administration of testing of students for hearing, sight and scoliosis.
- Administration of medication as ordered by Physician.
- Supervision and evaluation of Nurse’s assistant.
- Serve as a health consultant and resource person in the health instruction curriculum by administering and providing current scientific information from related fields.
- Serve as a liaison among the parents, school and community in health matters.
- Serve as a member of the placement committee for Special Education programs.
PREFERRED EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
- Graduate from an approved school of nursing or graduate from a four-year college or university with major course work in nursing or equivalent.
- License to practice as a registered nurse in the State of Arizona.
- Recent experience in the field of public health nursing, school nursing and/or maternal child health nursing.

We are a Pre-K through 8th grade school district in Phoenix, Arizona, established as the seventh school district organized in Maricopa County in 1879 and named for Mr. W. J. Wilson, a school board member. The district name was changed in the mid-1930’s to Hawkins School. From Wilson to Hawkins to Ward to Skiff, the District was bought by Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport and relocated to its current location in the early 1980’s and named Wilson Primary and Wilson Elementary, opening on Martin Luther King Day in 1985. The district boundaries cover an area from Roosevelt Street to the north; the Salt River to the south; 40th Street to the east; and, 16th Street to the west.

The noise level in the work environment is moderate to loud and can vary in temperature. The nature of this position is fast-paced and may occasionally be thought of as stressful. Through interaction with the public and other district employees, the employee may encounter different scents.

Pay: $23.79 - $25.79 per hour
