We seek someone who shares our values and can build a culture of inclusion and belonging that allows students to thrive socially, emotionally, and academically.Cabot School seeks a caring, dynamic and innovative secondary school counselor or social emotional learning teacher to join our inclusive learning community for the first semester of the 2023-2024 school year. Over the past several years, our school has transformed into a place that works to honor neurodiversity, and to support students with self regulation in trauma responsive and restorative ways. The ideal candidate would be able to lead our work in building and sustaining a positive school culture through collaboration with teachers, students, and families. This is an opportunity to build on a comprehensive approach to students social and emotional worlds that includes individual sessions, small group problem solving and conflict resolution, and direct teaching and support of social emotional learning curriculum.We are seeking a counselor with experience in a community school setting and a love of children, and who has a commitment to:
- Collaboration. The school counselor will meet with teachers regularly to help build their capacity to meet the social emotional needs of all learners, they will teach social emotional learning to small groups of students, and collaborate routinely with the Student Success Coordinator and families to create support plans for students.
- Restorative and Trauma Responsive Practices: The counselor should be well versed in restorative and trauma responsive practices and be able to work with teachers and the Student Success coordinator to mediate conflict, engage in collaborative problem solving with students, and model an ethic of calm in all situations.
- Creating a culture of inclusion and belonging that is characterized by responsiveness to students social and emotional needs, is rooted in deep relationships with students, and fosters a climate of respect with both young people and adults.
- Community as partners: The ideal candidate will have a history of working collaboratively with community resources and can act as a connector among resources in the community and with families.
- Lifelong learning: Approaches students, colleagues, families, and themselves from a growth mindset perspective.
- Post-Secondary Planning: The secondary school counselor works collaboratively with the principal to ensure that all students have access to post-secondary planning.
- Flexible Pathways: The secondary school counselor acts as our flexible pathways coordinator.
