The state supported living centers serve people with intellectual and developmental disabilities who are medically fragile or who have behavioral problems. The Security Officer II provides a safe and secure environment for Corpus Christi State Supported Living Center as part of the security team. Admits employees and visitors to facility grounds and buildings. Provides patrol of grounds and buildings by foot and by vehicle. Check grounds completely for any fire, damaged property, equipment, or unauthorized person(s). Documents all findings and reports any unusual findings to supervisor. Responds to all employee accidents and distributes paperwork properly. Responds to and documents all alarms, and investigates the cause of the alarm. Performs monthly fire extinguisher inspections in all buildings. Assists with fire drills and mock evacuation drills. Keeps a daily log sheet of activities and turns them in at the end of shift. Enforces security and safety regulations related to parking and traffic. Works at a facility serving individuals who have complex needs and who may exhibit aggressive and/or self-injurious behaviors. Works under a moderate level of supervision provided by the designated security supervisor, with limited latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.
Attends work on a regular basis and may be required to work a specific shift schedule or, at times, even a rotating schedule, extended shift, and/or overtime in accordance with agency leave policy and performs other duties as assigned.
Admits employees and visitors to the facility grounds and buildings, ensuring proper identification and paperwork is completed.
Checks for unauthorized materials as they come into the front gate of the facility grounds to ensure the safety of clients and staff, if required by the facility protocols.
Patrols the entire grounds by vehicle and foot checking for unauthorized activity and to ensure no unauthorized person(s) are on the grounds.
Patrols the interior and exterior of all buildings checking for unauthorized activity and to ensure no unauthorized person(s) are inside of buildings. When applicable, ensures buildings are locked when unoccupied.
Responds to all fire alarms and investigates the cause of alarms, taking any emergency action if necessary in accordance with training received.
Assists with fire drills and mock evacuation drills as necessary.
Performs monthly fire extinguisher inspections to make sure they are full and in good operating conditions. Takes corrective action if needed.
Directs visitors to proper location to sign in and obtain visitor badges.
Monitors the grounds to be aware of any clients trying to leave facility grounds without proper authorization. Takes appropriate action in accordance with training.
Monitors vehicle parking and traffic violations as per facility policy to ensure safety of clients and employees. Reports infractions to the designated authority.
Attends and participates in all mandatory training to meet requirements, maintain job-competence, and develop professionally.
Other duties as assigned include but are not limited to actively participating and/or serving in a supporting role to meet the agency obligations for disaster response and/or recovery or Continuity of Operations (COOP) activation. Such participation may require an alternate shift pattern assignment and/or location.
Must possess valid Texas driver’s license or obtain it no later than 90 days after hire date. Applicants with an out-of-state driver’s license must provide an original certified driving record from the state of driving licensure. Eligible driving record required based on HHSC Fleet Management policy.
Applicants must pass a fingerprint criminal background check, pre-employment drug screen, and registry checks including the Client Abuse/Neglect Reporting System (CANRS), Nurse Aide, Medication Aide and Employee Misconduct and HHS OIG List of Excluded Individuals/Entities. Males between the ages of 18 – 25 must be registered with the Selective Service.
All State Supported Living Center employees are subject to Random drug testing.
Flexibility in work hours may be required for this position. The position may be required to work overtime and/or extended hours. Must be willing to work weekends and holidays.
All applicants must be at least 18 years of age to be considered for employment at a state-operated facility.
